This is most likely not what you are interested in, but we took a Boston Harbor Cruise a few months ago, and really enjoyed it.

My husband and I want to "do" the American Cruise Lines Hudson River Fall Foliage cruise.

Sabbath, can you tell me more? What line was it? Was it a 5 or 7 day cruise?

Orchi- it was just a Sunset Cruise. We really enjoyed it. I don't remember what line it was, we just found it on the water front. The day after we rented a car and drove to Falmouth, then took the ferry to Martha's Vinyard and that was so much fun. Once on Martha's Vinyard we rented a jeep and drove out to Gayhead Cliffs. We also drove all through Cap Cod on a separate day and that was so beautiful. New England is so charming with the little sleepy towns!

Orchi- I don't have a lot of info on New England as I have only been once last July. If you have any questions though feel free to ask. We stayed a week. We took the T (subway) around Boston, we rented a car for Cape Cod. It was really lovely. I wish we had more time on Martha's Vinyard as we didn't get to see Edgartown. The ferry out to Martha's Vinyard is really nice. The Boston Harbor Cruise was nice too, very crowded though. They have a nice waterfront that you can walk along where they sell afternoon cruises daily.

There have been news stories saying that the fall colors in NE this year will be over fast. Climate change.

My husband is starting to buck about the cruises that go too far out, i.e. along the Maine, Canada border. Maybe the Boston, Cape Cod, etc. would make him happier. I know I would love it! I've been wanting to visit that area for a long time. We normally make a yearly visit to CT (our home state) so the cruise would be a perfect extension of our vacation.

This isn't about water trips, but I've done a bus tour of all the New England states at the peak of fall foliage and it was awesome!

Have also done a cruise, but was disappointed as you didn't get to see the foliage unless you took a land tour when you docked at certain ports.

See if you can get reservations for the right viewing time
on the Essex steam train and riverboat cruise up the Connecticut
River. I bought tickets on-line for first class seats. They
were totally worth it, cushioned and although sagging a little, much more
comfortable than a bench seat.

We went in May, and the views of the wooded hills from the river were simply spectacular. You're quite close up for a view.

I live in New England and really feel the area is best seen by car. These five states are not that big and you can cover quite a bit of territory. Newport, Providence, Boston, Portland, ME Cape Cod, New Hampshire mountains, Woodstock or Burlington,Vermont. They are all lovely and worth a visit. There's a Norman Rockwell Museum and the Clark Museum in the western part of Massachusetts. Those are just a few highlights. So much to see and do here.

For fall colors, I prefer touring by auto. There are many covered bridges in Vermont and New Hampshire. The maples in New Hampshire are gorgeous. A car allows one to explore many nooks and valleys not accessible by boat. The three waterways that I know are the Hudson, St. Lawrence, and lake Champlain. The fall color season is fast approaching!

The other call color tour That I recommend is the Blue Ridge Parkway. One caveat: At color peak, the drive is filled on weekends and motels are full. You might have to go 50 mikes off the parkway to find a room during the busy season. Most folks go home on Sunday night, so Mondays and Tuesdays can be enjoyable.
