Tile selection

I initially was trying to do a modern coastal style house and can't seem to get there. We live near the coast and want it to be beachy but
Modern. I'm torn on what tile For this small guest bath because I love this geometric black pattern. Thinking of white vanity so not too dark. Either pebble floor or gray-multi penny tile for shower floor. Surround will be large, bevel subway. I'm open to other floors besides this geometric one, just have no clue what to do...and can't budget for a designer right now!

Hey halaven. Just to throw something out of left field: have you considered a grey subway tile for the floor? Something like this could be cool: Storka 5th Avenue 3x6 grey subway tile. The room would still have the variety of two different colors (that go really, really well together). Using the same tile shape throughout the whole bathroom, though, could provide cohesiveness. That might make the room feel more polished and refined. The appeal of the look might even be longer lasting than the geometric pattern tile; while that tile has a cool look, I could see a person's preferences moving on from it after a short time. Something to consider!

Thank you for those wonderful suggestions @mnmamax3 ! I decided to stick with the sorbet tiles. They are beautiful and I've used them in the home elsewhere. I'll add a photo of them in my bathroom later. I'll update the thread with the tiled patio when it's done, although it will be awhile before the tile arrives.

I would say my style is traditional. We live in Middle Tennessee. There are very few days we can use our screened porch because of the heat and humidity here. The sunroom will have a separate heating/air unit, so we will still be able to open the screened windows on the rare days when the weather cooperates.

I think of star and cross patterns as more Moroccan in style. Terrazzo is very fun. Are there color flecks in the terrazzo or is it white on white? If the former, find a tile color that picks up some of the terrazzo flecks and use that for the tub accent tile. I'd go with a 1 x 6 stacked mosaic. Obviously, the photo below is not a hot tub, but you can see what the stacked 1 x 6's look like: Gives it a little modern Asian flair, which I think works great with MCM homes.

Not liking that mosaic at all and I don't think it goes with ether of the 6" tile colors. Like Hallett said, you need to show what the other permanent design elements are for the pool and surround. I prefer a more muted look for a pool and went with this combination for my pool.

It looks like you have very cool vintage tile and terrazzo floors. Are you planning to gut the whole thing or keep some of the vintage components? Can you post a pic showing more of the room?

The styles are at opposition. If you keep the vintage tile, I'd go with maybe an hex or pinwheel w grey dot and grey grout. You could add beach vibe w your wall color and accessories. You won't be locked in when styles change or you decide to sell.

Those don't seem beachy to me at all. I have penny tile in Marine Blue and we love it. I used it in my shower floor and it's supposed to be on our backsplash, but I never got it up there, yet.

Well, a trip to the Cement Tile Shop and I'm selecting this for the floors..:their tile is gorgeous!!! Now, to select my cabinet and finishes!

I'm planning to do the white one on the main floor and either extend that to the walk in shower or use those small 3x3 grey ones.

And we will be gutting the whole bath...unfortunately the terrazzo is not in good condition at all with lots of cracks and has been patched with concrete in some places :(

I must've been "sleep reading" cause I thought you were keeping the current green tiles. You aren't are you?!

Tile floor experts would verify which size is ok for shower drain area, etc.... idk. Something about your smaller size might? ask before, yes?

I almost envision a mirror with that shape corners, or other item on the wall. Or this one with scallop-y edges too..... for fun. You'd have to click More Info to see.
