Thank you for your feedback everyone. The Oxo silicone mat is very interesting. I actually like the idea of putting next to my stove, in case we don't put in heat-proof counters there. We drip dry a lot of items. Currently, along with our single DW filled and humming along merrily, we will have 2 drying racks full of items drip drying after dinner. 1 sits in 1/2 of the double bowl sink, the other is on a microfiber mat up on the counter. In addition, a few of the larger pans are drip drying at a separate sink location which happens to be an old enamel sink with runnels. So. I think my dilemma is to figure out where/how much drip dry space we will really need once we have 2 DWs servicing our family of 9. With only 7' of cleanup counter, 33" of it taken up by the sink, there isn't a whole lot of room for drying racks. Hmph. I really can't figure out which sink is the better option. ?? Pros of the super single: -Holds a ton of dirty dishes before they go in DW. -Fits extra large items that need to be washed (but so will the island prep sink...) Cons of the Super single: -Must have drain rack up on counter for handwashables, or stick a small rack in a bin, which might float around as we attempt to wash in the single sink (or get one of those wire thingies that stuff will invariably go under.) Pros of double: -Small drain rack can live right in 1/2 of sink. -Drip-dry dishes sit down "in the hole" rather than up on the counter. -More counter space for dirty dishes to be stacked on since drainer is "in the hole". (or is this a -?) Cons of double: -splash of water/guck from 1/2 of sink onto drip-drying dishes. -smaller space to handwash in. -oversized items don't fit. Love the "drop and give me 10" idea! : ) OT, but similarly, we've started collecting stray items that aren't picked up at cleanup time. We call it a "Lyin' Hunt". Whatever toys, etc. laying around get picked up by mom or dad and bagged for a few weeks. Then the DC that left things around get a chance to buy back what was left out. This week they were 25 cents per item. The children have been forewarned that there will be a price increase next time. All monies collected will be donated to a charity of the family's choosing. Our house has been staying much neater. Whoo-hoo. (I can't lay claim to this idea, my d-mil did this with her children. That's why DH is so much neater than I am!)

If I can't find the Ticor S113 (or equivalent), I think that will be my choice - it seems to be readily available, so I'm using it as my back up. lucypwd - I love the idea of the Franke Orca, but not the price tag. :( I actually found it on one website for $575, but then the grids are extra.... it gets even more expensive quickly and I frankely (pun intended) can't afford it. Good to get the feedback that the bottom grid is really the one you most use. And so sorry to hear about your Silgranit/painter episode. I hope they offered you at least some compensation??? mrdirect - thanks for the link to your 346 sink. It does look like (and the dimensions match) the Ticor S113. I had only seen your 345 previously and it wasn't what I wanted. The 346 is, but.... do you have cutting boards and/or drainers to fit? I don't see drainers at all on your website and 346 is not an option when I look at the cutting boards under accessories. Also, a "wire grid" is an option when I look at the sink; can you provide a picture of what that looks like? I am assuming this is the same as a "sink grate" under accessories?

Thanks everyone! Are you talking about the floor of the cabinet or the actual floor of the kitchen in your measurements? tracyac and angier - would you please clarify? I greatly appreciate you taking the measurements. The center of our waste drain is 10" from the floor of the sink base cabinet and the floor of the cabinet is another 6" from the slab floor. So . . . . , I don't think the super single is going to work unless I lower the waste drain at least 4 or more inches and I understand that is a big job. Our sink cabinet is along a pony wall that also has the DW. We are in a great room design and the kitchen is open to the living and dining room. I think the piping would be fairly easy to get to from the dining room side of the pony wall, but I don't know if the waste pipe travels somewhere else before it goes below our slab. If it were a straight drop from where the stub comes out of the cabinet perhaps the job wouldn't be too bad. Hum m m m ? Thanks again for the help! jB1176

Breezygirl, can you send me the window dimensions? I've been 'designing' my kitchen over a decade and now I am loosing sleep over the window/sink/base setup and the guys I am paying think it isn't a big deal. I am removing my corner sink because I really hate that only one person can work at a time on the little space on the side (otherwise love the space it allows behind and inside and have learned it is a better use of space). The goal is to make room on the left corner for 2 people, meaning my sink would be more to the right than yours so 2 people could stand there between sink and cooktop on left.. That said, I loose very valuable cabinet space as everything moves right. Can't move too far because the drain stuff is on the left wall. Originally I wanted a pass thru window, but if it was symmetrical, the window would have to be about 70" with added 10" for clearance. No room even if I put sink on the right half. Too big of a window. I am now looking into a triple sectioned with the sink on the middle, and giving up my much wanted past thru. With the cabinet being 36 inches (yours is, right?), is that the size of your center? how about the sides? End to end? Ha Ha, to make matters worse, I am insisting on keeping my pot rack. It helps with much needed storage space. Currently it fits wonderfully over the corner sink (a plus) but will be trickier over the wall sink. I was supposed to have measurements to the guys last week. A week later and I am still at a 'no solution' point holding up the start.
