September 2016 Blooms
I'll kick it off this time! Just missed the August cutoff, so we're now into September. =)
Neohenricia sibbettii - one of many that smell like fruit loops. Only open in the middle of the night.
Faucaria felina - another four blooms going strong.
Anacampseros retusa - haven't managed to take photo with the flowers fully open yet.

Haworthia,the next is the bloom rom this plant,hard to get the whole thing in one picture.

Comments (59)Hi Cenepk, I agree he is a pretty boy however known to carry fleas and has poor eyesight due to mostly coming out and about at night,..in my case i think he found the cat food tasty and arrived each evening at feeding time,..size wise he is about the size of an American football NFL type,..two VERY short videos below,..i keep small videos in Photobucket. Oh boy you visited the Garden Store and went wild lol,..fingers crossed they all thrive for you and great to see you got the Rooting Powder,..i couldn't manage without it. About your Lupine,..and the picture,..seeing my head is sideways lol,..first the Lupine seeds should be soaked overnight in lukewarm water,..sow them in the Autumn/Fall as they are another plant that likes to go through a cold spell before spring,..its that word again stratification,..remember that snails and slugs love Lupine like they do Hosta so make sure you protect them,..Lupine will come back in the same spot for several years like Perennials however some are only Annual and last only for a season though i have never had the latter,..oh they don't like to be moved,..they will grow but remain smaller for a season or two,..same with Foxglove. Don't know what happened to your Lupine in the picture as it could be a multitude of things but i would try taking cuttings when they are at the stage in the picture but when the cuttings take plant them somewhere else. Comments (38)tim, it's been a while since we chatted. Your yuccas are really spectacular! I lost a few things this past winter. Here I think it was that we had quite a mild season right through January, then February got to what I consider "normal" cold, up until Valentine's Day. Then we got hit with minus 9 degrees (!) all of a sudden overnight and only a high of 12 degrees the next day and then back below zero for a couple of more nights, Most plants weren't hardened off enough by a normal, gradual cooling. My 7 foot camellia was reduced to a 10-inch stump, although it's recovered and has a lot of new growth. But I doubt that I'll have any flower for a year or two. And if we get another really cold spell, well, who knows? My Magnolia "Bracken's Brown Beauty" came through fine, as did all of the cacti and Hesperaloe ("Red Yucca" - not a true yucca). Gardenia "Frostproof" was covered with a styrofoam cooler and was mostly OK when I uncovered it in spring. I would love to grow that hardy ginger. Comments (53)I love these blooms-per-month threads. Great to see all your blooms, such variety! I did not have many blooms this year, as my plants suffered from the transplanting into gritty mix. Nothing wrong with the mix, but I greatly overdid the carefulness with water in the beginning, like you mentioned recently in another thread, Rina. No rot, which had claimed many of my plants last year, but no roots and growth either. I think I did much better later, and my Titanopsis calcarea seems to think so too: A kind of Mammillaria and a Parodia (?) joined it in the sun today. Can anyone identify further? Just for fun, my two pots with Lithops, because I have so much fun with them ;-). No blooms this year, I think....See More

7 years agoI have 3 flowering right now! I love the colors, especially now that all my other flowers are dying back...I'm guessing the names of the Echeverias right now so if anyone wants to correct me, feel free to.

My last flower of the year (bet you're glad)? Blooming really seems to be cooling down. And the pig Opuntia have been shriveling for a few weeks--maybe a early winter? I hope not.
Don't know about my plants/labels. This is supposed to be Schick 'Samahdi' but looks nothing like the Huntington catalog picture. I like it but it looks more like my 'Antimater' which doesn't look like the catalog picture either. Oh well, here it is, first time bloom. (It does have a spent flower, but somehow I missed that one)

Noto - I always thought that cacti only bloomed in the spring, but your show of flowers has been pretty spectacular throughout the past many months. =)

Aloe (also a K.G. Hybrid)' Christmas carol'may have to flower under lights if it doesn't do it soon.
A fav that didn't/doesn't flower but has some tight tiny burnt foliage tips.

7 years agoThis Notocactus ottonis is very old, but the first time it bloomed. It got more direct sun this year so I'm guessing that's it.

7 years agoFirst time bloom for this old German hybrid 'Morgenzauber'. The old hybrid flowers are small, but very colorful.
And look at these very hairy buds--can't wait for this one to bloom

Sorry for posting non-succulent and non-blooming...but the color of the leaves of this Persian shield is as good as some blooms...
