Casey Anthony Case
Comments (33)A a pool drowning could be an actual accident because it does not require any intent to abuse the child. She could have wandered into the pool while the adults were sleeping or making breakfast. In the case of an actual accident the response is to call 911 and report it. In the case of a death as a result of child abuse the response to hide it so no one finds out what you've done. Leaving a child in the car can also be an accident such as when stupid parents forget they've left the kid in the car and the child dies. They then call 911. Once again the proof is in the fact that no one covers up an accident to make it look like murder....See MoreStyle: is period still OK when it's all new? discuss
Comments (35)Great thread idea, circuspeanut, and interesting thoughts all. On Mad Men, we watched several epis (with great anticipation) and never went back, we didn't care for the acting, the writing or the whole misogynistic tone, yech. Being baby boomer/gen x cusp types, I do remember some of the iconic design stuff (appliances, lighting), but thankfully I grew up in the boonies, so the whole suburb thing is lost on me. The razor blade disposal doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I prefer that to the plastic and gel encased blade pods you can buy (for a small forture!) and not recycle. And WRT town dumps, I am again showing my rube status, but our town has one, and most everyone uses it, there is no curbside pickup by our town or county, those who do have curbside contract with private companies. Finally, the initial question, I think it transitions into set design when, well, props are used extensively and pretend to be authentically used items. Consider the old fashioned mixer with mint green bowl on the counter (when the brand new Viking is in the cab, or worse yet, no actual mixer is ever used cuz no actual cooking is ever done), that feels inauthentic to me, but having a collection of old fashioned graters on the wall as a decorative feature feels OK, probably cuz they are decorative pure and simple and not trying to get anyone to think they really use the old Mixmaster. I appreciate retro design, but I would never want it to be "just like grannie's", and I don't think most folks would either. ITA that the appliances are a dead giveaway, but other factors can be the number of windows, lighting, ceiling height, etc. I am not a purist tho, and happily mix antiques with vintage and new stuff and don't worry about it, maybe purists need it to be seamless. Great discussion and pics, all. sandyponder...See MoreWhat is it about the Anthony trial?
Comments (26)Was it such a big deal nationwide or was it primarily local? Around here it hasn't been in the news much. There's a lot of other things bumping it out of place. However the local coverage has been unreal. I was reading in the broadcast sources about the local stations who kept coverage going even while it was on break, how basically all the stations covered it ongoing and pre-empted even the soaps with little complaint. Station ratings were higher than with other programming so of course they're going with what attracts viewers. I suppose it's something in which you have an interest, or feel somehow compelled to follow. I had no interest in it so I didn't follow it. Circumstantial can be a convincing case *if* it's properly presented. The trick is to get a jury who isn't just looking for a reason to acquit and to present the evidence logically and convincingly. But to present something like suggesting that a roll of duct tape in the trunk is powerful evidence, you shot yourself in the foot. My big question is how many people now will say "she was acquitted so she didn't do it" like they say about other "celebrities" (they like) who get off. And how soon will she write a book? I just went and read an article on it because I was wondering if they decided not to go for lesser charges or what was going on. All they convicted her of was giving false info to police and didn't even go with child abuse, manslaughter or anything. Wow, they must've really felt sorry for her and/or the prosecutors must have really blown the case for the jury to not believe child abuse or anything. They must have believed the accident story. IDK, maybe that's what happened. Like I said, I haven't followed it. But I do find this part interesting. Now on to other things! LOL...See MoreHave you known anyone with Casey Anthony's personality?
Comments (1)I have a coworker (in her mid-50s) who is a pathological liar. She has told I-don't-know-how-many people that she is co-owner of a restaurant in Carmel, CA. One day someone said to her that they were going to be going to the Carmel/Monterey area for a few days on vacation, and they asked for the name of her restaurant so they could go there to eat. Co-worker "hemmed and hawed" and then gave some lame excuse about how they had "fired the Chef and only had a temp Chef now" so she didn't want "any of her friends" to go there and not have a good meal, so she wouldn't give the name of the place... She bought a new car and told everyone that she had paid cash for it. Then one day another co-worker went into the server room and found a pile of envelopes and stuff -- someone had obviously been paying bills -- and there was a payment coupon book for a car loan. Guess who's name was on it... I could go on and on......See MoreBB Galore
