Does indeed looks like Pilosocereus, but can't tell you which species. P. pachycladus might be another possibility besides magnificus.

I agree it's a definatly a Pilosocereus. It's hard to say much more than that because it looks like it has seen better days:(. If this was mine I'd keep it as an experiment. I would try to see if I could get it beautiful again. I think you know what you're doing considering you have said you've got 100+ succulents. If you have any questions feel free to ask;). Thanks hoovb & Kara. It has certainly seen better days. Both cacti have a pup at the top. Although it appears to have started to rot at one point, it's firm from the base to the tip. Definitely has potential to chop and reroot but the humidity here is not in my favor. I had a san pedro that rotted at the base. I did my research and chopped it to clean flesh. I put it outside in the shade to callous over only to have the entire piece quickly turn to mush. :(

Being that I have no appropriate indoor space, trying to overwinter in a protected courtyard outside is my only chance to keep it. I am hoping someone may be interested. I would be more than happy to pay the postage to send it to a new home! It would be a fun project for someone. I would need pointers on how to package it for mailing. Pretty sure I have some poster tubes hidden somewhere.

Oh ya to send the cacti. Poster tubes should work fine. Just stuff newspapers in the tube so they won't shake around.

Most likely P.pachycladus. It looks perfect until that last years growth or so. I have one outdoors..frost tender. Cover the tips with styrofoam cups when temps near 32f.

They also like to be watered in summer. These are Brazilian cacti that probably don't go very long between rains..maybe weeks,not the months of no rain we get all summer long.

The hotter the spot,the better...only Kara..take it slow acclimating to the outdoors. Shade to start.

I'm gonna put them right next to my San Pedros. That area gets sun around lunch time. I will put them up against the wooden fence, you can kinda see it in the pic. That area gets less sun than to the right of the San Pedros.I will keep my eye on them. Stan's the man thanks for the growing tips!I'm gonna have cacti quadruplets;)

Kara, your San Pedros are gorgeous! I'm excited to see what you do with the guys I'm sending over. The color contrast would really compliment that spot. Are you gonna chop them? I guess you won't really have a plan until you get to see them in the flesh. Have fun experimenting and keep me posted if you can. :)

I was going too, but I'm not gonna make any plans till I see them. I would love to not chop, but they may start growing funny. I'm gonna ask Stan on his opinion?

What usually happens Kara is that when the Cacti is again in prime growing conditions the old sad growth wilts,shrivels,browns,scabs form under it and eventually the dead growth just falls off as new perfect buds form to make new arms.

You COULD cut that pencil growth off now- at a slant so as to shed rain water- let that heal and it will do the new budding thing.

I do option one in no hurry..and it turns out fine eventually.

Stan, what cactus soil do you use if you don't mind:). I usually use Kellogg cactus soil because it's peat less and cheap. I always mix with 50% pumice:). I went to Orchard yesterday and found a new cactus soil. I looked at the ingredients and it's peat less, but over double the $.Have you ever used this?

Yay! The box appears to be in good shape. That knife should be long enough to protect yourself. He has pretty fierce spines. ;) Have fun!

Looks nice - but can´t get anything like that in this 3rd world country. I shall keep mixing my own gritty substrate from what I can get !!!

I've rooted pups like these. They were pretty easy, even for me.

Shoot.I missed Kara's post . I will look into that peatless mix. I tell you..no matter how much perlite or grit you mix with peat based potting soils? Certain plants still hate it,wont grow or very little.

Just today- by wild coincidence- I was told that Lowes brand C&S mix is also good and peatless.

I like Kellogg brand stuff. Its various mixes that I have used has grown plants well..palms to tomatoes. I had no idea they also made for C&S.

EB Stone is my brand of pumice, and a brand I am familiar with from gardening. I like their stuff.

EB Stone is good too. Quality. Just harder to find as neither HD or LOWES carries them.
