Phal mystery: Do phals need drop in temp to rebloom?
Comments (7)Here is what i wrote way back in 2004. I am talking about "phals" that would get more of a seasonal difference in temp than those grown indoors all year in colder climates. Also, I do not muck around with re-bloomed spikes. If the plant has given you blooms for a couple of months, it deserves a rest and time to grow new leaves. As for roots outside a pot, not a worry, though some growers think that they do better in clear pots where the roots do not wander so much. "Posted by: ArthurM NSW AUST (My Page) on Sun, Aug 1, 04 at 17:59 There is a little problem in that most of the above relates to spring flowering Phalaenopsis. Add Doritis to the equation and i'm not sure what will happen. Perhaps this is why I've had so much trouble getting Doritaenopsis Tamara to rebloom though I found the start of flowering spike the other day and where it is sitting on the windowsill has been down to 12C. This autumn flowering trigger must relate to one of the species that appears in the ancestry of most modern hybrids...But there are some that initiate flowering in early spring such as the large white that I auctioned at our last OS meeting purely because it grew enormous leaves and outgrew its welcome. Flowered December so counting back 110 days spike would have started about late August (Spring Here). Phal amablis is in flower now so flowering was initiated when it was still warm. Doritis pulcherrima flowers summer as does Phal. violacea so expect different behaviour from primary hybrids."...See MoreHow much feed for Goldfish?
Comments (13)hi all. fry r baby small fish. i feed mine during the summer 3or4 times pending on pond temp. high protine % in the summer but when the water temp drop's below 10c they r feed on wheatgerm pellets which has a low protine % so they can digest it,as fish slow down due to the cold there activatey rate drop's because fish r cold bloods. so it alway's good to have a tempeture gauge handy but don,t use a mercury 1 because if it break's it will kill your fish. also healthy fish can go without food with out any problems for over 150 days. so don,t worry if u don,t feed them for a couple of days or when u go on holiday for two weeks they will b fine as during the summer there r lot's of nateral food in there to keep going. -----------david-----------fishmaduk---------------------...See MoreHow and when to feed goldfish and generally maintain a largish pond?
Comments (4)I have had a pond with goldfish, now 6-8" long for about 15 years. They stop eating as soon as the daytime temperatures drop below about 40F. Feeding them in winter will only make the water a mess. I stop feeding as soon as they start to ignore the floating pellets, normally about mid October, but this year, with record highs for November (60s) they are still eating. Yes, they will eat bugs, and without a pump there will be mosquito larva but they go "dormant" in winter. In fact, mine have survived 3" of ice over the pond for weeks. Next spring when it warms up, get the floating pellets, and learn how much to feed by watching them eat. Give only what they consume in about 5 minutes. In my case with 9 fish now, it's about a tablespoon full once a day. if you feed at about the same time every day they will learn and start getting excited when you approach....See MoreNeed advice on Freezing Temps
