A friend of mine gave it to me, because some one she knew was going to throw it away and she thought of me. Popham Beach, in southern Maine. The structure in the background is a fort that was built to defend the area during the Civil War, but the war ended before the fort was finished, so it was never used. Comments (10)Still from Block Island On one day a bike ride we passed a group trail ride. Another day's hike took us right past a picturesque farm that had a couple of horses and a couple of cute mules (and a goat that was hanging out on top of his shed.) Also right next to the place that had the alpacas, there was a miniature zoo with animals from emu ... to zebu ... 10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoA Half-banded Toper Dragonfly. According to my Audubon field guide, "this skimmer has become scarce, perhaps because suitable unpolluted marshy places close to deeper water have become too few". Took this pic last fall at the park nearby.
