Comments (8)After three weeks of vacation with no dogs on the premises my garden seems mainly a study in what rabbits do and do not like to eat! I think I personally supported at least one or two generations of bunnies, and if there's an explosion in the deer population I'm sending them all back over to Brenda's for dessert. Adding insult to injury, in my anger and haste to spray the Tree Guard I accidentally sprayed my basil. I hope everything grows back before fall, otherwise I'm going to have to cut up those pastel colored egg cartons and stick them on the ends of branches where the flowers should be....See MoreAnyone Ready to Think About a Fall Swap?
Comments (20)I could host a fall swap on the 12th or 13th. After the swap a few of us did a tour of Katsura Garden last year, and I am sure we could do it again if anyone was interested. My swap wasn't fancy. I don't have extensive gardens to tour, though I do have a Pagoda Dogwood I'd love to show off. So if folks would rather travel to somewhere more impressive like Whitegarden, I would understand completely. I am in Plymouth, about an hour south of Boston and 20 minutes north of the Bourne Bridge along 3A. For swapping I have... Black-eyed Susan Artemesia 'Silver Brocade' Agastache 'Blue Fortune' Guara Baptisia Seedlings Pink Spirea Pink Garden Mum Has anyone transplanted Bearberry? Arctostaphylos Uva-Ursi I planted one 5 years ago and it has spread beautifully, but I decided I have planted it in a poorly chosen place. If I do move it, I will probably have extra pieces where it has rooted, but I am not sure how it will work. If anyone has any experience, I'd love to hear it. Let me know. I'm willing to travel too. I just wanted to make a south shore offer! Lisa...See Moreanyone interested in a combo Fall Swap/CatLadysGarden Work Day?
Comments (2)Thanks treebarb for giving me Karen's email address and phone number! I spoke with her this evening and she said she would love to have the additional help in the gardens (Kim - she is sooo appreciative for all the work people have been doing there, so thanks so much for organizing that!!!), as well as have her garden be the location for the 2012 fall swap! So now we just need to decide which Sunday will work for most folks to attend, as well as best time. I'm thinking Sunday Oct. 7th would be the earliest to plan on, since that's only 2 weeks away. Karen said that she usually doesn't get home from her second shift until 7am, but she normally doesn't go to bed until evening since she has the rest of Sunday off - and she would really like to join us at the swap. So what about starting off with working in the gardens from 10 - 11:30, then a pot luck (Karen said we were welcomed to do so if we want to. She has some tables we can use if need be.) from 12 - 1 (11:30 - 12 set up time), and then swap after that. If that is too long of a day for folks, maybe we just skip the pot luck this time and do the swap starting at 11:30. So please post to this thread if you can attend and if Oct 7th from 10 - ? will work for you - if not, please suggest a different date and/or time. Also please vote for whether or not to do the pot luck. Thanks! Marj...See MoreAnyone interested in Rhipsalis?
Comments (3)Kenneth, I don't really need any more plants that have to be hauled indoors in winter, but the Rhipsalis houlletina is very tempting-I just Googled it. I love the look of the little yellow flowers along the edges. If you can get me one I will bring you something nice for it. I think it should do well on the top of the file cabinet in my office. The Eucomis bulbs you gave me at the spring swap are doing well. One of them has put out variegated (white/green) foliage. Once it multiplies I will share it at the swap. I will be starting the Eucomis seeds this weekend. For the past two years I tried, without any success, to germinate Thermopsis caroliniana seeds using winter sowing as recommended everywhere online. Last week I planted about 30 seeds (that I got in 2012) in a peat pot and set in out in the 90 deg. heat on my back porch. Three days later nearly every seed germinated!
