Well, you didn't spoil the party with that info, Andre. Except for SZ's Wine Fridge (Perlick)---I think that's SZ's, it is hard to find any info, especially from SZ, about their use of a variable speed compressor. Doing searches for same , along with looking at the link you gave, I was able to track down some posts, (Mainly on Refrigration repair sites), where it does appear that the newer SZ's are indeed using the newer VSC technology. Good to see that they are only 5 years or so behind Jenn-air, alto both companies need to do a better job listing the features of their fridges, especially the technical ones. This compressor is what allowed the JA to claim .5 Degree accuracy and I'm sure SZ will follow with a similar claim. If you have any doubts as to the value of such a compressor system, just Google "Perlick Wine Fridge". It does make ya wonder why Liebherr does a much better job of explaining Technical advantages of their fridges than do their American Competitors. Hmmmmmm are Euros more technically inclined than us "Yanks"---In the US, Fridge Makers can just say "It keeps food fresher longer" or this or that "Latest Sales Slogan" and we Yanks BUY without having the foggiest notion of what it does and even much less at how it does it! As I mentioned before, be careful, Not all Jenn-air or SZ's use that compressor yet (At least I can't document it) so "One Hopes" you will have a saleman that knows what a VSC is. Gary

I have the Monogram and can confirm the issue with the mold in the tubing too and it seems like black mold and flakes of green calcium like you see on copper. It reminded me of the clear 1/4” irrigation lines you can buy for aquariums and such. I had clear piping for some plants on the deck and they would clog with calcium build up. I switched to the black 1/4 inch tubing and the problem went away. I wonder if replacing the piping in the GE Monogram with black tubing would solve the issue. It seems like light contributes to the growth with my experience with clear tubing in irrigation. Does the little bit of light the ice maker gets cause the issue? I am not sure, but I may try black piping the next time I clean it. The half inch stuff they sell at Lowe’s should work and I may put some 90 degree elbows in with the connections to help out with the length of the piping. I know the ignorance is bliss will come in to play at least with the black piping. I wonder if bleach will work work any better than the phosphoric acid cleaner to clean the pipes? May give that a try before the phosphoric cleaning The GE Monogram is loud. The water valve is just plain old loud. Not sure why a water valve has to be loud! i was think of putting a carpet remnant underneath, and cutting a big piece of styrofoam to put beneath the door. Heat displacement versus sound will be the battle.

I'm still not understanding that everyone seems to think that companies should offer discounts??? The promotion is basically a thank you purchasing more than one appliance. If you're being met by sales people pushing it like its a selling feature than go to another dealer. I sell these appliances and don't even tell people about this promotion until after they purchase then I say "when we deliver your appliances you can go online and register to pick out a couple of free appliances for your counter as a thank you" That is what it was designed for. A discount should only matter if you have already planned on buying the exact product it's offered on. Otherwise you are ONLY buying due to a discount not really weighing the benefit and value of the product. Plus most of the appliance companies do free bee like a free dishwasher.... Did you ever stop to review that free product? It's usually the one they sell the least because it's inferior to the other brands. Why is love to know when the discounting started and why so many consumers think that everything should be on sale in order to purchase? Manitowoc is definitely the maker of the current unit. The older 315I was made by Scotsman. Scotsman is the best bang for your buck IMHO. They have always been reliable (for an icemaker, that is). The DCE33 is basically the same machine they have been making forever. The SCC30 and SCC50 models are the newer, more efficient version that have been out for about 3 years now. Noise is tough to say. Icemakers are noisy by nature, ice is constantly falling into a bin of varying fullness. The pump if needed will make noise when in use. I don't think you will be able to discern noise levels between the units.
