I definitely plant mine much deeper than that. That being said, I probably would give it a bit of a drink. You don't want to completely deprive them of liquid because their hair roots die back. What environment do you keep it in? Out/indoors? Light situation?

I keep it outdoors, around 4 hours of direct sunlight and indirect sunlight for the rest of the day.

What kind of media is it in? Like is that top dressing or is it a gritty mix?

Ultimately, it looks to me (mind you, I'm no expert lol) to be over potted. It should be in a smaller pot, possibly a finer mix but still gritty, buried deeper,...I'd do all those things and after about four days I would give it a drink. That's what I'd try. With lithops it's always worth the shot because they can up and die so fast that I've grown to just go ahead and do radical interventions. I had one with a spot that kept getting bigger. I thought it was mechanical damage, but it spread. I essentially did surgery on the lil sucker. Cut all the bad bits and treated it with a bit of cinnamon. I quarantined it in its own pot away from the rest and in four weeks it was ready to go back to its group. I've also had them,seemingly overnight, turn to mush even when I hadn't watered em in weeks.

It could just be shriveling because it is trying to push another set of leaves. Lithops don't necessarily go dormant in the Summer, just if it is hot. So, it depends on where you live.

Missy, I don't think it is healthy to plant them deeper, if this is the height they were planted at the nursery. From what I have gathered, the next sets of leaves will grow deeper, perhaps until the plant's top is flush with the soil's surface. In fact, that could be why the leaves are shriveling- it is trying to push another set, but they are unseen because they are growing closer to the soil. Please some one correct me if I'm wrong.

In nature, they grow flush with their tops. Most who grow them plant them that way. Imo just because a nursery does something does not make it correct ie: using improper media for certain plants, watering schedules ect

Plants are kept, very often, in poor conditions in the stores. They suffer most 'abuse' even if not intentional. Some conditions could and should be changed immediately (like a potting mix, proper container and so on), some may take time - like light exposure (best to go slowly).

I hope Kevin or someone else with lithops will chime in - I would be tempted to burry them deeper upon repotting - obviously, well draining mix is very important. Potting them or any other succulent, deep in dense & water retaining soil wouldn't be a good idea.

I don't remember reading anywhere how soon to burry them - maybe that info is somewhere.

Also, you could afford to put a little more soil in there, bury them a bit more. They're about twice as tall as they should be at their leggiest. More light will help. Try adding an extra hour of light if you can.

Also spent a lot of time digging (all posts) through the Gardenweb cacti forum back to 2010? I found that all the tidbits of information are really helpful, just initially it was very difficult to figure out what's valuable/helpful or just will not apply to me ever. For the longest time I never even thought I would grow Lithops!
