American Standard vs. Toto toilets?

I'm trying to decide between an American Standard Cadet 3 toilet 2988.101.020, the American Standard Tropic (2786.128.020), and the Toto Aimes or Legato (basically identical). I want a skirted model, prefer a one piece but two piece is okay. Right now, the Cadet 3 is about $323, the Tropic about $488, and the Totos are running about $600 each. I need 3 toilets for our remodel, and I don't want to spend more than I have to, but I want something that doesn't clog up and works well, so I'm willing to pay more for good quality. Totos have a great reputation, but I actually like the looks of the American Standard models better. They are just prettier, if you can say that about a toilet, lol. Also, I'm not finding many reviews on the Aimes/Legato, and what I have found seems mixed. I know American Standard had lots of quality issues in the past, have they improved? Any opinions? I don't have any real space issues, so I'm just going on looks and quality.

We have both Toto and AS toilets in 3 recent bathroom remodels. The Toto gets used the most as it's on the main level. It's not the model you show though it is one-piece, comfort height and elongated, but not skirted (regretful :-) ) It's been in place for about 5 years and we've never had a problem with it.

We have the 2 AS Cadet 3 toilets mentioned above. We got 2-pc. toilets for upstairs just to be nice to the plumber (those 1-pc. suckers are heavy!). They've been in use in our upstairs hall bath and master bath for about a year. No issues with those either. The AS does have a shallower bowl than the Toto but that hasn't affected anything.

We went with the AS mostly because of budget and have been happy with them.

we are in the model of remodelling 3 bathrooms. So far we have installed one AS Cadet Concealed Trapway elongated 2-piece, and one Toto Drake 1.28 elongated 2-piece. They both flush impressively well. We never have to flush twice anymore. We don't have to 'clean after every flush' anymore. So, I'd say either of these toilets would do the job for most people. So far, the advantages of the AS are:

1 - cheaper

2- sleeker, slightly more modern look

3- concealed trapway - easier to keep clean

The advantages of the Toto:

1 - Seat seems sturdier, and it is far more comfortable to sit on.

We're getting a Toto Drake for the 3rd bathroom.

Well, not sure how much help this will be, but, my parents have a Washlet on an AS. I don't know if it's a Cadet 3 or Champion 4. It's one of those two. Dad installed it. It's a bit wobbly to the point it can slip off the side of the toilet rim. A plumber installed mine on a Toto toilet. No problem whatsoever. Toto has a list of (non Toto) toilets their Washlets will fit. Mom and dad's was ON the list. So, I don't know if their problem is an installation one the toilet. Monica

What color TOTO white matches American Standard

Colonial white is supposed to match American Standard. You can email or call Toto and they'll send you color chips of cotton white and colonial white so you can compare for yourself. I just went through this deciding on how to match up a Toto toilet and bathtub with a Porcher sink (Porcher is owned by American Standard). For various reasons, I decided to stick with cotton white, but I think the colonial white was a slightly better match. I'm sure American Standard will send you a color chip too. It took Porcher a while to get my chip to me, but they eventually did. (I'm not so sure the chip actually matches the sink, but whatever. ;-))

We bought a Kohler Cimarron at HD when it was on sale for $128. The prior American Standard, the kids clogged at regular intervals. So far with the Kohler it has not clogged once. So far I am impressed how much it can move with 1.28 gl.

On the advice of my friend who has had both Toto and Kohler and replaced the Kohler toilets with Toto toilets, I am going with Toto I also wanted ADA height and one piece construction and a SKIRTED base so all those swirls in the trap didn't show and have to be dusted. The Guinevere is a pretty toilet for a traditional bathroom. I am having the Legato in the master bath because I wanted a Connect Plus washlet toilet there.

What did you end up going with. I am looking at the AS Tropic or Boulevard and the Toto Legato as well. Feel more confident choosing the Toto due the reputation of AS but I also like the lines of the AS models better. Would love to know what you chose and why. Thanks

Also look at how many gallons it uses per flush and if there's a dual action feature (one button for number 1 etc...) Also, I've never seen a Toto toilet go in on any of the installations I've been a part of, FWIW.
