Noxious Harmful Fumes from new gas oven, Feb 2017
Comments (14)Adequate caution was not rendered. The manual states "to speed up the process" run the self-clean cycle 2x. That's on page 35 of the "online" manual in the troubleshooting section. Not all people have a computer and would never know that this process should be done, but even so, the information given does not indicate it is necessary to do so. Plus, they refer to "an odor which is normal" but do not relay the magnitude of how bad the fumes really are. They are so bad that no one should ever have to tolerate going thru this with a brand new oven. For people with respiratory issues or other illnesses, pregnant women, and babies should never have to endure this whether if it is made clear to the consumer or not. This process should take place in the factory instead of polluting lungs and homes. Because I contacted the State of Ohio's Atty General's Office, I received a phone call on Friday from the Asst to the President of GE noting he was calling because he got notice from the Atty Gen Office. He attempted to discuss the issues with me but was very blunt, resistant to my concerns, and denied the validity of everything I reported. I am continuing to work with the Atty General's Office and shall see if anything can be done to correct the situation and at the very least mandate that a tag is attached to the oven door noting that the procedure needs to be done, how to do it properly, and to encourage people who are sensitive to such need to leave the home during the process. My personal damages was suffering a headache, preparing a meal that could not be eaten due to fumes contaminating it, and subjecting all my family including a 5 month old to fumes of which I have no idea what the chemical composition of "burning off an acrylic binding agent" is. I'll keep you posted as I progress with any outcome. Thanks for your responses. Laurie...See MoreNew perennials for 2017
Comments (12)Mmm, new salvias for me too (from Robin Smith) - spathacea, stolonifera, forskaoli, purple leaf macrophylla, involucrata 'Boutin', Penny's Smile and Christine Yeo - a greggii/chamaedryoides hybrid I had and mistakenly gave away before propagating. Fast from seed...plus a freebie yellow (name escapes me but not glutinosa, which lurks in the woods). Salvia is a cyclical craze for me...and I am currently going through an 'on' phase. To be entirely honest, the bulleyana looks more 'interesting' than totally desirable. I grew yellow and purple salpiglossis one year (shudder) and swore not to go down that colour route again. Then again, I have said this about many plants - some of which went on to become beloved....See MoreSpring 2017 in New Brunswick, NJ
Comments (79)I don't know about "drive from all over town", but I extended open invitations to my immediate neighbors to take a walk through the back when they have the chance. My next-door neighbor (not the one who shares the yard and landlord with me, but the one on the other side) saw me doing the front mulch project yesterday. I said I wanted to do the same to the hellstrips, and asked if I could extend into his part of the strip in front of my house. He said he could get a few cubic yards of mulch through his job and fill his pick-up truck with it, and drop it at the back of my driveway, if I'd be willing to do his hellstrips. Right now, he's out there spraying herbicide on the worst of the weeds -- I'd rather he just let me smother them to death with cardboard and mulch, but at least he's getting involved. I've found that since I started planting a garden here, others on the block have begun their "keeping up with the Joneses" by doing the same. Anyway, when I was talking to my next-door neighbor just a little while ago, he said he told his wife to go look at the back. I brought him back there yesterday, and he was amazed. He saw the whole thing since the beginning, and was amazed at how fast everything grew. :-) ~Christopher...See MoreOctober 30 2017, ripe fig harvest and preserves making,in New Jersey.
Comments (15)I trialed and grew over the years, over a hundreds varieties. I kept only the cultivars that can take ,this difficult climate, and, the top tasting in the world ,tho some of the later are not as easy to ripe fruits here. A list: Malta Black,Improved Celeste, Adriatic JH,Battaglia,Ronde De Bordeaux,Italian 258,Gino's fig,Takoma Violet,Atreano,Nero 600m,Vasilika Sika,Vasilika Mavra,Noire de Barbentane, Longue D'Aout,Ischia Black,Marseilles black vs,Aubique Petite,Carmelitana,Saint Anthony, Figo Preto, Col de Dame Noire, and Grise.Negretta. This is it,i might have missed a couple ,but that will be because it produced very few fruits here, and i lost interest(example: (Jurupa)...See MoreLabradors
