My poor Fourth of July! Any ideas?
Comments (30)I don't like the looks of the lower portion of that cane the green ones grow from. A suggestion! If the rose looks like it is recovering and begins to sprout new growth, consider planting it deeper with much of the green canes covered with soil. That portion of the green canes under the soil may sprout roots. This may give you a healthier new bush on it's own roots. The older damaged portion will not be a factor anymore as the roots will be above it. I have salvaged sick looking older roses that looked like they were jusy getting by with this method. I place it in a deep pot and cover all but the growing tips with potting soil. Watering with dilute fish emulsion seems to help it along. It takes a year or so if it works, but all I have is time and I'm not out anything but a little potting soil. The new recovered plant seems healthier and grows better. Eventually the old portion can be removed....See MoreAny Idea What Is Wrong With My Cat??
Comments (28)babyj, I did exactly what you are doing with my cat. At that time, HL (Hepatic Lipidosis) was a death sentence, so I got no support from my vet other than weekly blood tests to see if what I was doing was doing any good. I don't know what food you're feeding, but I used a prescription formula (Science Diet A/D) mixed with a little water. A/D is highly digestible and much more soupy than regular canned food so not only is it easier to pass thru the syringe, it's a high calorie food so you don't have to feed as much. It does sound as though you're not giving enough. Try to give 20-30cc at each feeding. Cats should have 100-150 cc's a day for weight maintenance, so you should really ramp up the food intake if possible. Just get as much as you can into her. I found that Momo didn't do the syringe so well, so I eventually ended up scooping it out of the bowl w/my finger and wiping it across the top of her mouth. It was EXTREMELY messy, and I'm sure that we lost a good bit of food with all the flinging she did (she was anorexic and didn't want to be fed) but apparently it worked. She was severely jaundiced, and smelled of liver. The other cat wouldn't go near her. There were nights when I was sure I'd wake up in the morning and she'd be gone. It took about 3 months doing that before she started eating on her own. Another thing that really seemed to help was getting vitamin B12 shots once a week--after I started doing that, she started to improve pretty quickly. I wish you the best of luck and will be praying for you and Cali. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, or want any support....See MoreAny Idea what is wrong with my windmill palm?
Comments (8)Are the top and bottom the same plant? It doesn't look dead quite yet, but if you keep it in the same conditions, I am confident it will be dead in no time. If you want your palm to do well, try outside for a change (assuming you didn't just bring it inside for the picture). That soil also looks a bit iffy; I think it would like new soil (possibly a better mix?). As Andy said, if it is outside, and you let the rain water it (granted it has good drainage), I think it will do fine. Put it in a sunny spot, but acclimate it to avoid sunburn. Good luck! ~palmsandsnow...See MoreAny idea what's wrong with my clem?
Comments (6)I have no idea, but here are some things to think about. Have you looked for sucking insects like aphids or chewing insects like caterpillars, particularly on the back side and tucked into petals? Have you have a lot of rain? Has it been particularly chilly? It looks like a young plant, and they don't always behave quite like more mature ones, so I probably wouldn't worry too much. The leaves look healthy, so I doubt it's a nutrient/fertilizer issue....See Morelittle_ebe
