Pups growing out of centre of plant - how to remove
Comments (5)Hi louis mum, Glad you enjoyed the photos of conference - which reminds me I have a heap more photos I was going to post, albeit a fair bit after the event. I'll post Part 4 shortly, and make it the final one. Yes this recent cold snap has been a shock, hasn't it? I have some bad cold damage in my shade house - alcantareas mostly - and early morns here have been down to -2 C. Frost in surrounding paddocks, beyond the garden. It seems to depend on what your broms have grown used to, so even 3 C can damage many plants if they've never been that cold before. Good luck with yours......and bring on SPRING!!! Cheers, Kerry...See MoreTransplanting/Separating Aloes & 'pups'
Comments (4)After looking over the site you mentioned, the closest type seemed to be the branddraaiensis. Soap Aloe/Zebra Aloe, Prinslooi, Turkanensis, Aloe Zebrina are some of the aloes that have similiar features to the one I have. My aloe has red-orange colored flowers, it splits three ways at the base of the stem, the leaves are a medium green with light slightly oval spots, spikes (which turn from green to brown in direct sunlight, the leaves will also turn a purplish-brown color when over exposed in the light, the center base of the plant never lingers above ground like Soap Aloe does slightly.. the rest you can figure out from the pictures I posted. Unfortunately www.deserttropicals.com doesn't include images with every aloe and the pictures are not very detailed in most cases(ie. baby plants which don't show adult features) Thank you very much for the feedback and link, hope that my main 2 questions will be answered soon :). Comments (18)If the buds had been fertilized they would have become seed pods. If they dry and fall off, they are done. You don't need to cut off the stalk, it will dry up as the moisture is resorbed by the plant. After a while, you can puck it out with no resistance. It will bloom when it's genes tell it too, starting in late Spring, and continuing through the summer. It is possible for a large mature rosette to make several inflorescences. The best way to encourage blooming is to grow a happy plant. Happy growing! Brad...See MoreNew growth coming from everywhere on Aloe vera?
Comments (10)I was given a large, rootless Aloe vera plant last summer. After I potted it, it started sending out pups. It now has a couple dozen of them, with new plants sprouting from the base of nearly every leaf on the original plant. It has also lost many of its original lower leaves. I would post a picture if I had a digital camera, but it'd really just be an exaggerated version of tamasine's pic. Here is a link that might be useful: Here's a page with some good info...See Moregarrett222
