can any1 help me save my dying pothos plant???
Comments (1)Try to find some clean pieces of the vine, break them off from the mother, stick in a jar of water, and root them. Once rooted, you can repot those. Mealies devastated a number of my plants this past year and they don't just settle on the plant or in the soil but on the pot sides, on windowsills and even on walls or floors. You have to make sure that you wipe down the entire area where the plant was to hope to get rid of them. Aside from using straight rubbing alcohol on a q-tip, you could try some Bayer Advanced as a systemic. Read the dierctions on how much to mix and how often to use. External sprays other than maybe alcohol/water and possibly Neem, are usually ineffective against mealies....See Morecan any1 help me save my dying pothos plant???
Comments (1)Hi, I would sugeest that you remove all dead debris and scraggly looking stems and start over. Take what is free of bugs and "healthy" looking and repot it into a smaller pot using fresh soil. Keep it in shade or filtered light and water when it appears to be dry on the surface of the soil. You can also root these in water if you wanted to try to save some of the stems. Good Luck, Kelly...See MoreRooting a pothos in water.
Comments (36)Steve, I wouldn't have taken the chance of going from water to perlite or soil since pothos and philodendrons can live indefinitely in water, plus it's the safest option for rooting. But I'm glad it's worked out okay and you're seeing new growth in soil mix, a very good sign it's going to be fine. I'd like to suggest that as soon as you have some growth of 6 inches or so, take a cutting. I would keep taking and rooting cuttings until you have at least 3 to 4 plants in separate pots. These backup plants will be good insurance against calamities such as you've had with your old plant which has such sentimental value. Some might think this is over-kill, but I've learned this strategy the hard way. Besides, a plant in several different rooms will be a constant reminder of good times and good memories. Keep us advised how it goes. Russ...See MorePothos Help! How to identify root rot?
Comments (3)Those roots don’t look very healthy. Roots should be white so unless there is a lot of dirt left on them they don’t look good to me and probably there is root rot. Do the roots feel soft and mushy, do they easily come apart if you tug on them? Pothos root pretty fast. If you want to try and save the plant, I would cut off all the brown roots and put the plant back in water to root again. If you are going to use miracle grow I would add perilite to the soil otherwise it retains too much water. Once back in soil, don’t fertilize until it puts out new growth. Hope this help.
