Help! Can tile be removed after grouting?

The tile I chose for my kitchen renovated is Artigiano from Daltile. It is a ceramic tile that is made to look like old handmade tile. This was a last minute change for me (that I'm regretting); I'd planned to go with a plain ceramic subway tile. http://products.daltile.com/documents/salessheets/DAL_Artigiano_SS_1605.pdf

The problem I'm having is with the backsplash right above the bar sink. I don't like the line of 4 tiles just above the faucet. They were grouted today and now I especially don't like the way one tile is set back and the other 3 are sticking out. Again, they are supposed to look handmade, I just got a little more of the old world look than I'd hoped.

My question is, can these four tiles now be taken out and replaced with other tile to give the backsplash in that area a smoother appearance?

If you never turn on the lights you won't notice it. :P

They can be taken out. It'll be a bit of a pain to do it but I agree with you--it's too bumpy! Overall I like the look.

Lol, very true Fori, the dark does the trick! Thank you! My husband told me to take it out NOW before the rest is grouted if I don't like it...

If it's not gotten up initially, it's down permanantly. You also seem to be saying that you have a groutable vinyl flooring rather than a ceramic installation? If that's the case, then your contractor needs to buy you a new floor. It's not coming off of vinyl if it's been on there longer than 24 hours. Anything that would be abrasive enough to remove it will damage the vinyl.

I'd live with it for a while first, but it they still drive you crazy in a couple months, cut the tile before smashing them out and don't ruin your substrate when you do.

You got great advice here! And I love the look too. If your grouting people are coming, get them to take out the few tiles that bother you and replace them now while they are around.
