Some pics from my summer garden
Comments (20)Mary, pickerelweed does very well in sun or part shade. Likes a lot of moisture and can live in up to 2' of water. Annie the purple Monarda is "Claire Grace". I like it a lot, especially with the Monarda "Raspberry Wine". Lynne you are pretty close to me. I'm probably less than 5 miles from the Johnston County Airport, off hwy 210. My horses have helped a lot with the Monarda. Carol, yes, Monarda can take a year or two to get going. And it's a heavy feeder. In my garden it spreads like mad in rich soil, gobbles up all of the organic matter, and then recedes again. Thank you everyone for your kind comments....See MoreSome pics from my zone 3 garden in early July 2014
Comments (27)Hi marcia, thanks for the tip! I will watch out for that lychnis!!! I saw that in my parents' yard in BC and it was in a shaded and moist area, so it was tiny. Therefore, I dug it up and flew it back with me LOL. A year later, it's now this huge clump! My parents could not believe it LOL!!! I guess I may not believe it later either.... ROTFLOL! As for the Black Lace, please try it. It's so worth it! Even though we had such a rough winter this past year, it still came back from the base and is now over 3 feet tall. It's just a lovely thing. Donna, thank you! I actually have a Bugbane Chocoholic and is doing quite well. However, it has been "eaten alive" by that 3 feet tall Geranium Rozanne!!!!!!!!! LOL! That Geranium acts like it's on steroid or something and so I probably will need to move that poor Bugbane elsewhere next year so it will be more visible.... As for the Rodgersia, I am so happy to hear that it's hardy here! I actually saw that for the very first time just recently in the Botanical Garden in Newfoundland and I was very impressed by it. However, when I looked it up online, it was listed as a zone 5 plant. So I was disappointed. However, I am pleased to hear that it's really a hardy plant! Donna, do you have a photo of that please? I would love to see yours! Thanks so much....See MoreSome pics from my garden - mostly hosta [Warning: Pic heavy]
Comments (6)Lykaon, What a beautiful yard you have...it makes me realize I should really spruce up my edges...mine is way more "rustic", so to speak. I say "YES" to your idea on future hosta beds, you have such an excellent backdrop there for beds. What are your flowering shrubs, Viburnum? Not sure on the Thunderbolt question, it doesn't look quite like mine that I can remember (I lost mine.)....I think mine were more blue, but someone else may have a better thought. Thank you for sharing! Your beds are beautiful! I finally bought Regal Splendor last year after having it on the wishlist year after year...can't wait to see it furl out now! (Eyes are only just now popping up this week here.)...See MoreSome pics from my garden in May
Comments (22)sidos_house - can't show my garden all at once, but below are some pics of bits of it showing more than one rose bush. Because my house is in the middle of our 1/3rd acre lot, and because I use 3 sides of it as a three story rose trellis, I can only take pics of parts of the garden at a time. I started counting all of the different "views" I can take pics of, and gave up when I got beyond 15. Jackie Here is the back of the house (roses are Cl Rainbow's End, Blaze, Cecile Brunner, Reve d'Or, and Sombreuil) Here is the SW corner of the house with Cl American Beauty (this rose was growing in 3 places when we moved in - it must have been a favorite, or just a survivor) Here are two pictures of way out by the sidewalk in front of the house - the first one is South of the driveway, and the other one is North of the driveway (second one was taken in March)....See MoreKen (N.E.GA.mts) 7a/b
