Help Dorstenia gigas rot!

I have a decent-sized Dorstenia gigas that has failed to thrive all summer...it never grew any leaves since it lost them over the winter. Back in June, I repotted it, thinking that might help, and though leaves tried to grow, they never got more than about 1/8" long. This evening, I was looking at it and noticed that it seemed fairly soft, so I began to pull it out to have a look at the roots, and the whole thing came apart at the base! Is there any hope for it at all, or is it finished? The majority of the plant is still green, but the bottom is very mushy and smelly... Can a dorstenia this size be re-rooted if I cut off the rotted part? If I attempt that, what's the best way to do it? (I've not dealt with rot on a plant this large). If it's unlikely to save the whole plant, is it possibly to try and root some of the branches? So far, I haven't done anything at all other than remove it from its pot. I can take more photos tomorrow if that would help.
