Bikerdoc...How do the plants on your wish list, differ? What I mean is, I've seen D. crispa and D. foetida sold as two different succulents. Same family, different species. I thought one grew viney, one upright??? Penfold..hope you're still around. I got D. gigas for Valentine's Day from a local nursery. Dorstenia gigas was not in the succulent section of the green house. 'succulent area is kept very cool to semi-cold,' huge exhaust fans blowing above to circulate air flow. The area D. gigas were placed is moderately cool, temps a little warmer than the succulent area. You said you haven't had much luck growing gigas. It rots. How often did you water? What temperature was the room it was in? A few days after bringing D. gigas home, leaves started yellowing. It wasn't watered, fertilized, etc. Did your ex-Dorstenia leaves yellow before rotting? I'm quite concerned. This little plant, about 8" or so, cost 20.00. Some might consider 20.00 inexpensive, I don't..lol. I have other Dorstenias that do well. I never thought twice about watering, ect. Now that you mention rot, I fear the reason foliage is yellowing could be due to rot. Do you or anyone here know how dry soil should be before giving a drink? Should D. gigas be kept in a cool room? I agree..D. gigas is one of the most beautiful Dorstenias around. The leaves!!! I've never tried but with that many cuttings and enough heat and humidity some might strike roots...but the bigger question to me is, even if they root, will the plant still be able to grow the characteristic fat stem? With some Pachyform plants, cuttings do not take on the same growth forms as the parent plant. Sometimes this can only be achieved with seed. x

I wasn't aware you had just transplanted it which, as you've said, could be a contributing factor. Also, while overwatering will kill them quickly, if your weather is warm, they can handle a little more water and not drying out to bone dry. I'm not saying to soak them but a bit more may help. These are some of my Dorstenia and they have yellowing leaves which is natural. As long as the body of the plant is firm, I would think you're fine. Keep in mind, that if they dry out completely for too long and then you water, they may have lost lots of good roots and it will rot; I have had this happen to at least one of my Dorstenia gigas

Thanks for the tips and the link. I actually spoke to the guy from Jungle Music yesterday...he is about 3 miles from me. It's his website you sent the link from. He said the tree has about a 50/50 chance of making it. He agreed with you both and said it is most likely a problem of shock due to transplant from a field to a box to my yard. He suggested giving it a couple of months or seeing if my nursery will honor the tree and replace it.
