Schefflera Arboricola branching/thickening question
Comments (3)She's right i meant, in the sense for the plant to be more compact or possibly branch out fuller-more light. On the other hand, the regular arboricola will not reduce leaf size no matter how much light-or pruning.Even the petioles are stubborn about reducing....See MoreAnybody seen dwarf Schefflera flower outdoors?
Comments (5)Stan, I've only seen them flower in climates that are consistently warmer than here in the SF Bay Area, in climates that are more like USDA zone 10b or 11. I also have huge specimens of both the straight green and variegated forms that have been planted out for years, but never any signs of bloom or berries. The ones I have seen blooming and/or with berries were in southern Spain, (Marbella), which has weather more like San Diego than the SF Bay Area. They are said to flower in late fall/early winter in habitat,(Taiwan), so it may be that we just aren't warm enough at this time of year to trigger blooming. I have never seen Schefflera actinophylla bloom here either, while Schefflera pueckleri regularly blooms and sets seed in my garden, but it is more odd than showy in fruit and bloom....See MoreHelp with my first plant: Umbrella tree, Schefflera arboricola
Comments (14)Thanks Dave. Those links are full of great stuff! I've been trying to wait longer before watering to avoid the whole root rot problem, but one of those links talks about feeling near the drain holes to gauge when to water. This will definitely help me! Can't get my hands on a magnifying glass today but I do have a higher magnification mirror. Still couldn't see much. Flat looking brownish things all along the stems of leaves and top of each leaf. Don't seem to be underneath leaves. Tried scraping a couple off and had to use a little force as they don't come off easily. Kind of orangish brown, smushes easily once off plant. Here's some pics, don't know if this helps:...See MoreMini Schefflera leaf form
Comments (11)I bought it from the store, four stalks in a 6 inch pot. The leaf change is consistent all the way around, the leaves grown in (whatever place they came from, probably a greenhouse before the store I bought it at) and on top, all of the new growth has this, I'd call it maybe an imperfection since it doesn't seem to be hindering or endangering the plant's health. One run on sentence later and I figure it's due to conditions. Is it possible this is a result of being cut back, the new leaves are less mature and therefore have a less bulbous leaf tip. OR is it something from being in the store and it'll outgrow it soon, probably under current care OR is it something wrong with my culture that I need to correct before it'll get the more perfect form of leaf tips? Could it be from being exposed to chilly temperatures near a window while growing? I didn't think of this since being afflicted by cold, from my understanding, exhibits with different symptoms....See Morebreathnez
