Aloe Vera Replant Problem
Comments (2)It just may need it's roots trimmed a bit, and new soil, there is really nothing that I can see wrong with the plant, it may be leaning that way as a way to the sun. Zone 6B may be a bit too cold for this species? It is warm enough now to remove the offsets, let they dry a day before plants, put then in a shady spot and where they will get good air circulation, do not water until you know they are rooted, if they have roots you may water and tap down to settle the soil. Does this help? I use clay pots so they don't get over damp and rots, clay pots dry out faster. Norma...See MoreAloe vera vs other aloes
Comments (4)There are three "major" medicinal Aloes: Aloe arborescens (seriously people, if you live in SoCal, use this!), Aloe saporina, and Aloe vera. These are the standard, "put it on what hurts" Aloes, good for burns, scrapes, and other topical ailments. There are many other species used for other reasons (purgatives and laxatives are common!). In reality, most stuff sold at supermarkets is just the inner gel of the leaf with some other stuff mixed in. The thing is, most of the "medicinal" compounds are in the yellowish sap than runs more in the skin of the Aloe than in the middle, clear gel. If you've ever used real leaves instead of a supermarket bottle, you'd have found that it is much more effective, but leaves a yellowish, sticky residue that would be too uncivilized for something sold in the beauty department. So would A. maculata work? Probably, since the inner leaf gel is mostly just water in all species, and the supermarket bottles are mostly just water too. Then again, it is possible that it has some sort of compound in it that might actually irritate your skin. Depending on how much of a gambler you are (and how much extra A. maculata you have laying around) it may be worth a shot. Then again, I'm not even remotely a doctor, so maybe I'm not the best person to be listening to!...See MoreWhat's wrong with my aloe vera?
Comments (5)Not recommended by most of us here unless it's had at least 50% perlite added...despite what the packet says. For a tall plant like this you need more weight so I would use equal parts of c/s mix, perlite and horticultural gravel(aquarium gravel would also do or chicken grit)....See MoreAloe Vera plant needs help please
Comments (2)They seem to do that when too dry, they loose the gel in the leaves and fold in. As said above, make sure to have it in a pot with good drainage. Since it's the older leaves I wouldn't worry too much. Just leave it alone until the leaf turns all crispy brown then can be removed....See MoreCrenda 10A SW FL
