Monitor "No Signal"

Yesterday I took my new home PC tower to my office, to use the much faster internet to do Windows and various program updates. Hooked it to the office monitor and it worked perfectly while I spent 2 hours getting it up to date.

When finished, I reconnected the office tower and received "No Signal" message on monitor. Checked and rechecked all cables and connections, but no help. Rebooted several times to no avail. Reconnected my own tower to check, and monitor worked perfectly.

I've googled for solutions, but suggestions like replace video/graphics card don't apply.

Any and all suggestions gratefully received!

Make sure there are not 2 video out puts on the office desktop and your possibly in the wrong one. Easy to do, I mention this because I have done it on my computer. I have a dvi connector on the motherboard and a stand alone video card with the same dvi connector. I have to make sure I 'm plugged into the stand alone card or receive no signal as the motherboard connector is disabled.

Other that that not sure what your problem could be

My little netbook acts the way my PC used to. I turned it on and after it found the network I went to one of my son's several fabulous sites where he displays beautiful photos of birds. He is the most avid birder imaginable and he has become an excellent amateur photographer. He has an extremely expensive digital SLR camera, long distance scopes and lenses and macro lenses. He is also proficient in Adobe Photo Shop. I know his large pictures are fairly big files. They snapped onto the screen faster than I could look at them in a book by turning pages. I KNOW my PC is the problem. Knowing what is causing the slow downloads is enough to make me get past being annoyed. I will work on all the suggestions to speed up my Dell and stop cursing TDS for a slow DSL. Nancy

Monitor works in safe mode but not regular

Never mind. When I went to shut down the computer in Safe Mode I hit Restart by mistake and now it works fine.

shielded cat5 wire necessary? ran through EMT

I worked for an insurance company (Doing tech support) and they had the token ring cables replaced with cat 5, trouble was the people doing it used unshielded cable and ran it parallel to the power cables under floor. I don't know why they never had the contractor come back and make it right but we never could get it to work at 100mb, it would work at 10mb. It would have been better to just keep the 16mb token ring. Like another person said, the cost is not much more for shielded cable and it always sucks to have to do something twice. So in addition to using shielded cable, do not run it parallel to any power cables (You can cross them no problem). Static

Thanks, Zep. Will have to wait until tomorrow when I go to office. It's Sunday morning here, and I live out in the boonies with a painfully slow satellite connection. It's measured in bps, occasionally kbps, and I've never seen Mbps! That HP link you gave me took 4 minutes to download...

I know all about satellite, most of time there was no connection ! ha ha
