Problems with Frontline Flea Control
Comments (105)PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE AND DO NOT USE FRONTLINE ON YOUR PET!!! It will KILL them!! Maybe not right away, but the effects it has on them can last for quite a while. This applies to heartworm medications as well! Our beloved dog Einstein was treated with Frontline before he was a year old, based on a recommendation of my Vet. I figured the Vet would know if there were any issues with this product and would not recommend anything that was bad (poisonous!) for our dog. After the treatment, he developed a huge sore on his back (at the treatment site) that did not go away for months. This was just the beginning. He began having asthma type symptom's after that. I knew exactly what had caused the problems. We only had Einy for six years when suddenly he got much worse and we took him into the Vet. They determined that he had cancer, but without opening him up, they could not determine exactly what organ was affected. Within a week of diagnosis, he died in my husbands arms. It was devastating! I would urge that people stand together to BAN this medication! This should not be on the market. Read all the warnings listed on the internet about this product. Give your dog or cat a bath. Fleas drown within a few minutes of being submerged. It is better than losing your pet like we did....See MoreTicks, ticks, ticks!
Comments (37)To quote the sage advice of the Springfield, MO band, "Big Smith": "If we didn't have those bugs attachin', we'd never know the joy of scratchin'" :) My job requires me to be miles in the wildnerness all day, nearly every day, all summer long. So, I just CAN'T use the poisons because I'd constantly be bathing in them. We just duct tape the bottom of our pant legs to our hiking boots, tuck in our shirts, and keep a roll of duct tape handy for seed ticks. Otherwise, we just enjoy the glorious feeling that comes from scratching those bites! Makes us know that it's truly summertime! Generally, we have between 1 and 1000 ticks on us by the time we get home, but we're happy and tired and know we're ALIVE! I know, I know, this isn't really helpful advice to most. But really, aside from the slim chance of a disease, there's really a lot of psychology involved in the desire to be rid of the "pests". Also, FWIW, I've heard that a tick must be attached 6-12 hours before a disease can be transmitted, presumably because the tick must be filled with some blood to have it sqeezed/regurgitated back into your body during removal. So, if you just keep up with picking them off.......See Moreflea and tick control
Comments (3)I use Advantix on them, and then one day they just had them. Whats weird though is that I took them all to petsmart to get bathed when it was so cold and I just didnt want to do it :) They told me they didnt have one flea, then within the next week they had ticks all over them. You dont think they could have got them there ? That was the first time they have been to the petsmart store and the firsttime they have had ticks, sooooooo........ Now it makes me subconcious aobut it because I dont want ticks in my house and in my floors and couches and ect ect ect. I just was thinking that maybe the lavender and other stuff could have been like extra protection, but I didnt want to burn or irritate thier skin. Thanks....See MoreFleas, Flea Spray and a Dead Cat.
Comments (48)Fleas can survive soap and water?! I read that they drown in plain water. I already know I wasted my time washng everything. I guess they did live through it. I read about a trick to use where you take a candle and put it in a water dish. The fleas jump toward the heat and CO2 but land in the water and drown. I'm so deparate I was even going to try that, even though it sounded bizaar. What I don't understand either is that it seems to be the basment that is the worst. It is just a cement basement. No rec room, no carpeting, no curtains. I just was down there again for about one minute to spray again (again!) and when I came up the stairs my ankles and feet and calves were COVERED WITH THEM. It reminded me of that old commercial for Off Incect Repellant where the guy sticks his arm into a glass box filled with mosquitos and they all land on his arm. The worst thing about these fleas is that when you slap them, unlike mosquitos, they just spring right up and can't be crushed. I went into my little tool room in the basement, where I rarely go, and there was so much flea dirt that it looked like coffee grounds were scattered all over the table. I had to SWEEP flea dirt out of one of my closets in the guest room there was so much. Things stored in the basement are covered with flea dirt. All my stored canned goods and extra stuff stored under the basement stairs is covered with black specks. HOW????? I know it it flea dirt because when I try wipeing it with a paper towel the specks turn red. How could this have gotten this bad so fast like they just exploded all over. I hope that I don't have the fleas down there because of critters. :shudder: Critters are just about impossible to get rid of once they get in. There are a lot of skunks in the area, I just had one on my back steps a couple of weeks ago. I had to stand in my driveway until it decided to leave. I was hoping it wasn't going to go to sleep there for the night. Front door was locked. Possums too. Lots of rabbits and squirals My garage is overridden with field mice even though I have glue traps, snap traps and poison all set out. Nothing works on those critters. If they got in the house I don't know what I would do. I have to deal with the death of my dear cat Max. My anger at Hartz. And now this flea nightmare that is getting worse and worse. If I find a nest of critters I am going to go insane....See Morerob333 (zone 7b)
