Hi Tony, Beautiful pics. I see your photo of Snowqueen nectarine. Can I safely assume you grew that fruit & did not buy it at the grocery? Seems like a silly question, but... most reports I've seen say that Snowqueen is one the most highly-rated nects for flavor, but is NOT cold hardy beyond Zone-7, which is why I have not attempted growing it on my vacation property in Zone-6b. Are you growing Snowqueen in the ground in Zone-5A Nebraska? Did it survive this past winter? If you are successfully fruiting Snowqueen in Zone-5A, then all bets are off! How old is the tree? From where did you obtain it? Was the fruit richly flavored? Thanks in advance for whatever information you can share. Cheers, -Matt

Hi Linda, I must say I really like the look of the Chinese Palm, probably one of my better $15 buys. I thought my dracaena was doing okay, now I notice that the leaf ends are turning brown. Hopefully the new growth will be better. They had a few of them at the store but the one I picked out had exceptionally pink/white/green striped leaves. Mine receives about 4 hours of morning sun and then bright light the rest of the day. I really wanted a spindle palm, or the bottle palm, but both were fairly pricey here plus I guess there's the matter of overwintering and there's only so much rooms with good light in my house. Xerophyte, I hear what you are saying but it was an impulse buy from the tropical patio plant section at the nursery. I am beginning to think it might be an "expensive annual", however, as from what I read they need high light indoors and humidity to over winter, no different from most palms I guess. I did transplant but very carefully, basically plucked it out of the black nursery pot and into another. Mine has three leaves and has the potential for a fourth leaf, but so far not much growing happening. Maybe now that it's warm, sunny and humid it will help. Glen

@jane_ny and @arthurm2015, I've tried to mention everything in the description section of my question (check notes). I apologize for the lack of some important points. My zone: 11. ONCIDIUM: So, when I got the oncidium, it had small dark spots on the older leaves, mostly around the tips. I placed it on a west-window, getting sunlight through glass and curtain. The leaves had turned a dark green, which is why I'd exposed it to sunlight coming through glass. A day or two went by, and the leaves started getting a copper color. THIS is when I got confused, as the coloring along with the black spots seemed to indicate a viral disease... The color was on old leaves and tips of some new leaves. Finally, an old leaf was shed, and some relatively new leaves (not the newest) turned yellow and brown. I've watered it on occasions when the potting mix got almost dry. The pot is a size too big. It has drainage holes in it, and it's sitting on coconut husk chips and fibers. The water runs right through the fibers on watering, the husk chips retain some moisture, dries out completely in a little over a whole day (I haven't had the chance to replace the husk chips, reused the harder ones from the mix it came in, added some fresh husk fibers). Been careful while watering, tried not to get water on the leaves. DEN-PHAL: As for the den-phals, they are hanging against a white south wall, on a veranda. Receiving bright indirect sunlight. Been watering them once every two days, since the mix is old and retains more moisture A few leaves on one are a little wrinkly, this is the one whose flower wilted prematurely. The other one with green spots on the back of the petals has happy leaves. Both plants have happy roots!

Most roses put out a big flower show in June. If they produce flowers then and later, they are referred to as repeaters. So your roses presumably bloomed in June, and are blooming again now. It sounds like the old photos would have been taken around the late 20's. However, there is room for doubt whether or not those are the same roses that are currently there. B & W photos are nasty things to try and interpret, IME. Red roses read the same as leaves. White, pink, and yellow roses all look almost the same. Sometimes you'll get a profile view of the flower, so you can at least get an idea of how big it is, and maybe the general form, but most of the relevant information is size and general growth habit of the plant. That helps with general class, but is rarely enough to pin down a specific variety. Williamsport looks to be just cold enough that it is unlikely they are old HTs.
