What are your favourite houseplants.
Comments (37)Hi everyone. I just joined this great forum and have gotten some very good tips from you guys by reading a lot of the posts about certain houseplants that I have. So thanks a lot for the great tips and advice provided! As far as my favorite houseplants, it's really hard to pick one or two since I've got quite a few. But, the ones that mean the most to me are : 1) Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen) 'Crete' - I picked this one up at a local garden center fairly recently and it's supposedly new cultivar. It may be one of the most beautiful foliage plants I've seen. It's green leaves are bordered in a beautiful bright red and splashed with the red color also. Just exquisite! I keep it by my fireplace in the den and it loves it's shady spot. My Polyscias plants are also among my most favorites. I have a 3 foot tall Parsley Aralia that is amazing. It's in a beautiful oriental-looking pot in my game room/Japanese garden. I also have 2 medium sized Ming Aralias that I love, one of which I found at Home Depot a few weeks ago, the other I got from a really nice houseplant store in a town nearby. The one I found at HD was the last one and a bit scraggly looking but is putting on some nice new growth. It has four main trunks so I'm sure with proper care, next spring it will explode with foliage *fingers crossed*. I also have a small, variegated Balfour that is very beautiful. It may be in my top 3 or 4 plants. Surprisingly, I found that one at a grocery store (again the last one!) Then I have 2 small variegated Parsley Aralias that are very nice and bushy. I absolutely love Aralias, even if they are a little temperamental. 3) Another favorite of mine is a large 7 foot tall Amate Schefflera in my den. It fills one corner with it's huge umbrella leaves and looks awesome. I've always loved Scheffs. I have 2 Amates and about 4 Arboricolas! 4) My last favorite plant (out of 4) would have to be this Jade that I've had for quite some time but it's shape is what I love so much about it. It has one trunk that splits into two that drape down on each side and curve back up. It's very Bonsai-like. I love it. I'll try to include some pics if anyone is interested. Glad to be able to join this forum! Cheers! -Chris...See MoreMy Favourite Invasive Weeds
Comments (44)Bindweed is nasty and makes my blood boil. As a farmer I have become very dissatisfied with all the chemicals we use and even then we do not eradicate, only temporarily control. There should be holistic, natural ways to deal with this. Older farmers tell me they used salt to sterilize the soil. Chemicals can sterilize and do this. Of course we want to grow things, not kill them and look at bare ground. I also seen a study that said copper could do this. I would like to put some copper or salt 2 foot down into the soil through a pipe to see if that would work. This is where the roots could absorb this. Do roots need a surfactant like we use when we spray the leaves with chemicals? We have to kill the roots. Any suggestions? Desperate farmer...See MoreRecliners that do not look like 'recliners'~~
Comments (8)I was just out today looking for recliners or chairs/ottomans as I am to sit with my feet up (swelling). So I found Smith Bros. of Berne and it was heavenly - chair with a round thing on the right side under the armrest that you could adjust the chair back like a recliner without using one of those wood handles. Also it had a ottoman........see the chair would recline but your feet would be up on the ottoman. The chair I tried was #932 and it was more comfortable than all of the Lazyboys (yes, I did sit on all of them that the store had, ofcourse it was not a reg. Lazyboy dealer store but they had more than enough to try out.). Go on the to Smith Bros. of Berne furniture site and you can also see the recliners. There was a very wide array of fabrics that I thought were fabulous. From what I understood you could use any of the fabrics on the chair I was speaking of, they had it on the floor in wonderful leather, with nailheads and the ottoman was a half circle. Boy I can't say enough things about it. Now I just have to decide what I want to buy. Berne Furniture is not longer in business and they had exceeding well made furniture and I don't know it this was an offshoot of them, I have no clue but in the stuff I read on the site, they have been in business for 80 yrs. At least look them up and look at styles, the one I like was wonderfully comfortable....See MoreRecliners that don't look like recliners
Comments (26)I recently bought mine from LazyBoy. I never thought I'd buy a recliner again because, like you, I don't like that "puffy, typical recliner look" in my decor. But, this looks ok, it's a smaller recliner and goes all the way back. And you have a choice of hundreds of fabrics. Plus, it was a very fair price for a decent piece of furniture. My husband LOVES it and it looks nice too....See More- 7 years agolast modified: 7 years ago
