Here are some more tips: anything you "hide" under sofa cushions, in the master bedroom (ANYWHERE in the master bedroom: drawers, mattress, closet, pockets, purses), in a cookie jar, in the fridge/freezer, in a desk drawer, behind books on a bookshelf, in a hollow "book" meant to hide stuff, in a cupboard - WILL BE GONE in a burglary.

As a side note, I made the mistake of answering the door (actually I opened a window and spoke through it) at night when I first moved into my new home. It was salesman for a security system. If you know me at all, you know I aint no shrinking violet. I could not get him to go away. No amount of persistent kindness was taken. I finally said, I have to go, and shut the window.

For at least two weeks after that, off/on he'd knock on the door. I wouldn't answer it. He'd leave a flyer. Week number three, I taped it to the front door with "NO! Thank you" written on it. More flyers. It finally ended. That was November.

A couple of days ago, he stopped by while I was out picking up limbs from the storm. He prefaced the entire conversation with he hoped I was "in a better mood". I informed him I was in a fine mood before, but that I was fully displeased he wouldn't take no for an answer. He played dumb acting like he hadn't done what he had. Really? He told my son he looked 13. He'll be 17 in another couple of months. Oh boy! Another way to win me over. It took me at least 15 minutes of telling him no. No. No. No, thank you. No. Shaking my head no the whole time. No I don't want a system. No, I don't want signs. If I need you, I'll let you know. No. Seriously. I never even wavered. Not once.

At one point, he motioned up and down the block and said he had many clients on my street. I said, really? What good did your systems do when all of our homes and car were vandalized (seriously, they spray painted everything. Security cameras, street signs, cars, stucco houses, UGH!) earlier in the month? He had no answer to that. If he shows up again, I'm threatening him. But do I really have to? Seriously? Why didn't he get the picture in November?!

A friend of mine had someone come to the door trying to sell something. He wouldn't take no for an answer, and even put his foot in the door so that she couldn't close it.

By her tone of voice, her Rottweiller knew she was upset and came thundering down the stairs. The guy turned tail and ran.

Can you phone the company and file a complaint? I guess it won't do any good, after all......there are many unscrupulous door-to-door salesmen and companies that hire them.

How do they know? Because they KNOW where THEY hide stuff! It's common knowledge - all the "hiding places" in your home. Think about it. Professional thieves (ours got 10 years - but will be out in less than 5, even as a habitual offender) are professionals for a reason. The ONLY things that stayed in our house were the things that were in our safe (which was bolted to the floor). He took clothes, purses, electronics, bedding, jewelry, music instruments, cameras, alarm clocks, and even food from our fridge & freezer.

Burglars don't "sift through" your drawers or closets - they completely EMPTY them out. They pull all cushions off sofas/chairs, they turn all furniture upside-down (so don't "tape stuff underneath" things), they take beds completely apart.

He IS the company. Hence, the threatening.

Ah. A safe. Bolted to the floor. I need one of those. That's what I was wondering.

In the garage on the soffett. There is a space between the top of a wall and the garage roof that one can reach through and touch the soffett. It requires a step ladder to access and that space is completely hidden.

Well, I'm sure burglars have the interwebs...

Hah - behind a picture on the wall. Nope - our burglar also took all the pictures off the walls. Every one of them!

Oh, rob - I misled you by my wording. I should have said, "they removed all the pictures/mirrors" from my walls. Not that they took them away! lol
