My camera wouldn't be able to take a picture of it in focus, they are so small. I have done some more looking on google. The closest I can come up with is book lice. They look very similar to red book lice; however, I know that they can't be that bug. I sprayed with neem, but later I found more, so the neem was ineffective against them. I have picked a few off and squished them. They were hard like the smallest grain of sand. Squishing killed them, but they didn't smear. Thank you for your help!

I agree that it is not venomous. I had never seen a black widow until a few years ago. This is in spite of the fact that there are lots of them in Florida. I knew at once that this was not the ordinary spider. it has a large bulbous body that looks like patent leather. I caught it in a jar to check the underside and sure enought there was the red hourglass. Needless to say I destroyed it. I have never seen the recluse even though they are prominent here. Most of these spiders do not run around the house or outdoors. They try to stay hidden in dark spaces. If you are gardening, wear gloves.

It's hard to tell from the picture. Almost looks like a fungus gnat which are from too wet of soil. It could be a spider mite too it's hard to tell You could try natural pest repellent with neem oil, soap, and water.

I agree it is a crepe myrtle tree. Of course they are everywhere in the south and we say those little seed pods look like miniature cotton bolls although if you have not seen cotton, that is a useless statement! It will be interesting to see the color as they come in all sorts of beautiful colors. They also come in different heights. Mine are so tall I could never trim all the seed head clusters off. Does not impact blooming on mine. We also have a contentious debate among gardeners about whether to heavy prune as many people like to prune them so they “drape” their branches. That practice has helped coined the term “crepe murder” among those opposed to doing this kind of pruning. I do not prune mine except to thin branches and trunks. I notice most landscapers use white crepe myrtle trees around my area so if her lawn was professionally landscaped, I would guess that will probably be the color.
