You should be covered Parts AND Labor ?

It's probable that you're on the right track with the above suggestions. Is there NEVER a time with a band on the bottom? What happens when you push your mouse down there? Can you see it , does it disappear, still show up or what happens? It's possible that the aspect ratio, how wide to how tall the monitor thinks it should show images. This is not a setting that is in the monitor itself. It's in the software that support the monitor. What brand monitor do you have and what's the model number? I would suggest going to boot up in safe mode and see if the problem disappears when there's no video driver running the software for monitor. This happenes when safemode tells the computer to load, nothing. By loading nothing the monitor should display things the basic way 'nature intended' There are 10's of ways to figure this problem out. PRobably however only 1 GOOD way to resolve it. BE SURE that you fully understand all of the choices given to you by well meaning technicians before committing to how you will solve it. You do not need to reload anything, to fix it, almost certainly. Do you have a floppy disk? The 3 1/2" type disk. If not then a CD might work OK. Do you have any access to memory stick? I ask because my first thought is to run a simple DOS program that will let the screen show its native resolutions. Tere's other ways. I'm trying to avoid going down a path that introduces confusion. You have many issues going on there, no file explorer, no command prompt and maybe other issues that we don't know about yet. I would suggest to "reset" windows 10. This will reinstall windows. Some data loss could occur, so back up any really important files. When you reset windows 10 there's an option to "Keep your files" use that option, but as i said some data loss can occur and some applications will need reinstalled.

Needing to get the room "done", we used the boxes we had. Maybe will change out to something "lighter" like Jodie White Designs posted. I like that. I wanted to share the temporary "finished" product and say thanks for all the comments. We tried 10 different mirrors, but nothing seemed better than what we had. Still looking for something with a narrower frame but the one we have now is growing on me. Tundra on the walls and Deep Space on the ceiling. New light fixture. I feel like we need something on the wall (left side if you're facing the sink) - maybe a larger art work or a black and white framed print. I love the suggestion of the orchid on the counter to fill the space / extra height. Thank you!
