Garden use for wood/wire lettuce boxes?
Comments (4)Gee, I'd love to have boxes like that! The first thing I'd do is completely organize my Garden Room. What a great thing to have -- a box that holds things yet allows you to see what's in it and allows for the flow of air to boot! I could store all my summer bulbs in them, among many, many other items in my gardening room. I could also label them easily with a permanent marker. Once organized, I'd start taking them apart so I could use the wood for staking plants in the garden. Then I'd get DH busy with his table saw, and have him cut me up some decent small stakes to use as labels. I'd try to have him cut the stake in half, and then about every 10 inches, so I'd have lots of room to write names, and still be able to put it firmly in the ground. Using a permanent marker, the stake should last at least 3 years, perhaps more. Oh, and I'd really like some for my 'root cellar', where I keep all of my apples, pears, onions, potatoes, squash, etc. Again, the air flow and being able to see things would be a great advantage. You could also spray paint them and use them for storage throughout the house -- just fit them into your decor! Say, any idea where I could get some of these boxes? Comments (10)Keep it around 66-70 for lettuce. At least that has produced my best results. Gradually increase your nutes until you see no additional differences. This is where the journal is very effective. In "keeping it frugal", the minimum required for maximum effect is the goal I am after. The t5 should be effective. As you can see from the photos on my blog, keeping the lights about 2-4 inches from the plants is very effective, but you need a fan to move the air and prevent any heat build up. Comments (18)We (and everyone who has eaten it or gotten the recipe) loves it. It doesn't need icing, which I love because I don't like icing. It freezes well, and is good for lunches etc. Nice and moist. Chocolate Zucchini Cake 1/2 cup butter 1 3/4 cup sugar 2 eggs 1/2 cup sour milk (add 1 tsp vinegar) 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tsp baking soda 2 1/2 cups flour 4 tbsp cocoa 1/2 cup oil 2 cups grated zucchini (if using frozen, as I always do, squeeze it dry, to measure 2 cups) Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs well. Add sour milk and vanilla. Blend baking soda and powder with flour. Add cocoa to butter mixture; add flour. Combine oil and zucchini; add to batter. Mix and pour into a 9x9 (I use a 13-x9 if I use more zucchini.) Bake at 350 35-40 minutes....See Morerobbolson
