These rockers are usually very comfortable. Very worth cleaning and fixing up! Victorian is not terribly popular right now, so enjoy it until it regains its value. The barley-twist table is later Victorian. It's pretty bashed up and looks like it is missing a lot of veneer on top. On the other hand, it's an attractive form and has the wonderful claw feet gripping glass marbles. It would be quite project to restore it ... but would be an eye-catcher if you did. The drum table might be easily restored using something like Howard's Restor-A-Finish. Did the top originally have leather? Or could we have a better shot of it? I think the Hepplewhite/French sofa would look better with an untufted back. Is it in good structural shape? If so, it might be a good project for learning upholstery. It's a very pleasing shape. Interesting chest! Does the top open on both sides? It could be a home handyman special, although the feet are rather refined. I'd refinish it rather than painting it. The Duncan Phyfe style sofe is most likely a repro -- the carving isn't very sophisticated. This is the only one I'd be even remotely interested in painting. But reupholstering it would probably cost much more than it's worth....See MoreAm I crazy for thinking brick shouldn't go up while I'm abroad?
Comments (5)I would definitely wait until I came back. Brick suppliers are notorious for sending out multiple lot runs of brick for 1 job. There can be huge color variation between lots that you may not notice until you're looking at a giant expanse of wall. We had 3 different lot#s show up in our shipment--only 1 was the same as the brick they had already put down for the foundation. I noticed it and brought it to the GC's attention. The brick supplier apologized and brought out more brick in the correct lot. Our framer was working on a gorgeous house in the town I work in that had a brick lot problem--beautiful large Georgian-Federalist style house. There was a definite line that ran across the front of the house about 2/3 of the way up where you could clearly see a different lot of brick was used--the options were to tear down the wall and start over, live with it as-is, or paint the brick. They now have a beautiful very large Georgian-Federalist style home in a pale yellow color....See MoreTumbled Stone kitchen backsplashes, should I or shouldn't I?

We had a slab picked out that had a lot of greyish areas along with the caramel and cream swirls and we thought we really loved it. But when they went to cut it, they noticed a number of scratches in areas that made it un-useable. So they asked us to come and select another slab. The longest run in our kitchen is 9 ft. and they had two smaller slabs that they couldn't use for some of the large kitchens. So they showed them to us and it was love at first sight. The scratches in the other slab were meant to be! It is more overall black with lovely streaks and swirls and we are so glad we had a chance to choose it. But... I was told by many people and did lots of research on the web, that this granite is particularly dense and durable. And that dark granite is more durable than light. But early on I managed to make a tiny scratch in it. I had a ceramic urn as a kitchen catcher. It was glazed except for the bottom which was a rough grainy texture. I was going to put a protective base on it and hadn't yet. When I slid it on the counter I could feel it scratching. I used a bit of black felt pen and even I can't find the scratch anymore. But it was an eye opener! Maybe this is normal. I don't know since its the first granite we have had. But we sure love the look of it....See MoreInstall new shade. I shouldn’t, should I?
Comments (43)A member of my book club thought she was being very careful. When she went to the gym she said only one other person was in her class so it was ok. When she needed a little touch up on her new closet install, just one person came out.. She was safe. Yesterday I got a text from her. She went to a local hospital for tests because she didn't feel well. The Covid test results will be back tomorrow but the doctor was "almost certain" it was Covid. So, if it were me, I would wait for anything that wasn't absolutely necessary no matter how good it made me feel.....except for chocolate....See More- 7 years ago
