where did you get your pull and knobs?
Comments (21)I went to a place today called "The Great Indoors" They were closing the store (just like every other store in that poor strip mall today) I hit the jackpot! I bought 21 knobs that were priced $6.79 a piece and I got them 90% off at only .67 a piece and 6 handles that were priced $12.45 a piece for only $1.25 each. Total for the entire kitchen cost me under $25! Should have cost over $200!...See MoreHow do you like your black glass top electric stove?
Comments (25)i have to say again, I just don't get it! what is so hard about cleaning a black smooth top? Really, wipe with a hot soapy dishcloth, dry with a dry towel. See? no streaks. cooked on 'whatever', scrape with razor blade. gone in 60 seconds. I swear! need a wiping boost? use a white scrubbing cleaner. I don't know why anyone would say it leaves a residue unless they don't do a good job wiping off the white cleaner. i have not had to clean a gas range or a coil burner in years. but, i do remember how it was. with a coil burner, i remember covering those drip pans with aluminum foil. how ugly! this was to prevent having to look at them dirty when there was no way possible to clean them no matter how much scrubbing you did. I remember my grandmothers gas stove. Ohhhhh, you could scrub for days on that to clean it. a spill not only went into the drip area underneath the grate, it went down way under into every nook and cranny it could find to drip into. there was no end to that. so, do i find wiping, scraping with a razor, cleaning up white cleaners, or polishing and buffing a chore or anything difficult? Heck no. I would rather clean a smooth top anyday. I know that gas is preferred by chefs, but gas was not an option for me. I did consider it, but that idea was squashed by DH because we don't have any gas lines even running to my house. i may have preferred cooking on gas by now after 8 months if i could have had it, i'll never know. But the one thing that i can say for sure is that a smooth top is always easier to clean, no matter what. I really got the best of both worlds. I wanted a gas range in the beginning because i wanted a certain 'look'(I am a decorator at heart, and what looks good means alot to me). I ended up getting a viking professional range but with a smooth electric cooktop. i love it! It cooks wonderful, better than my old kenmore smooth top. its alot more versatile and cooks at higher heat on some of the burners. And, i have a beautiful stainless steel appliance to look at too....See MoreKnobs or pulls, which do you have?
Comments (41)Just found this thread again but wanted to weigh in on trader_deb's question . . . We made the decision to use 2 handles on all our drawers 30" or larger mainly for aesthetics as it was more pleasing to *our* eyes that way. Otherwise, our cabinets just seemed too stark and bare . . . the handles are a bit like jewelery and dress the empty cabinet face up a bit. :-) We have Blum hardware on our drawers and don't have the slightest problem opening the larger drawers with only one of the two handles, even in areas where they are loaded with heavy items (like under the cooktop where our pots and pans are stored). It really comes down to personal preference. I always advise people to look at pics of kitchens online and in magazines and pick out handle configurations that appeal to them (and make note of those that don't). It can really help take the guess work out of what will be a pleasing result for you in the end....See MoreShort pulls on big drawers? Or do I have to do double knobs?
Comments (20)Good things to think about--thanks! I ordered a few knobs/pulls and will test them for sharpness. I can put them in my bathroom for a test run. I decided my paper mockups don't do a good job of representing the bulkiness (or lack of bulkiness of the pulls; I needed to cut out the middles. Zwizzle, I agree with you on the function of one pull (or knob, or whatever). It just seems right for function. These drawers are big (in addition to being wide, the interior space is about 28" front-to-back), and will hold heavy stuff, so if I think I'll be tugging from one offcenter handle, I should avoid the 2-handle setup. Maybe I can mix a large rectangular bar with these pulls if they pass the pain test. So, back to knob shopping. Do y'all think black is the way to go for handles that don't stick out? The countertop here will be stainless steel, faucets and (probably temporary) lights chrome, but house-ish metals are brass (doorknobs, window hardware, etc.). I think a dirty brass might be alright but I don't want anything sparkly. At least I don't think so....See MoreKim Taff
