If that soil in that geographical area doesn't have ANY worms and shouldn't have any worms because of naturally occurring conditions, then fine, it could be good soil without them,(and good for what?) but I find it hard to believe that there is soil that supports other insect life and plant life devoid of ANY type worms anywhere. And when I say worms, I mean just that, worms, not worm I.E. Eisenia foetida, there are many types of worms on this earth and as long as there is one type of life, there is almost always another. I have found that when a GARDEN is devoid of worms there is a reason. On the compost farm, I searched for weeks for Eisenia foetida and found none, I did find worms in the soil near by,(about 1/4 mile away) but not many. on the farm the soil was tilled and and compacted and all manner of farm chemicals were used for decades before I got there and I am sure this had a effect on all the life that would/could occupy that area. I would also say that if an area is completely devoid of ants or spiders or beetles/grubs or mice or rats or whateva that would naturally occur and if it is devoid of those creatures because of something happening, usually humans can be connected to the absence. AND I am not saying that Eisenia foetida are pure good creature that do no harm, imho they are just another example of an invasive species just trying to live and prosper like good ole Darwin sez. It took me a while to like the scent but that was because I had my plant sitting on my desk. I think this one is best enjoyed from a distance although a large plant with multiple groups of blooms would probably be hard to take, for indoor growers anyways. Beautiful plant are you growing this Hoya outside in your garden? Mike

P.G. and Florajilly, I certainly donÂt mean to discourage anyone from cumingiana (sp??) or davidcummingii (two different plants I assume were named after the same person)! Like the above people said, I think it just has to do with a genetic ability to detect certain chemicals, and the point is that most people clearly think this plant smells wonderful! Ispahan, subjective or not, IÂm thinking it would save me time and money if you would say if there are any others that you either like or donÂt like?!! ;) Good point, Marcy--and isn't densifolia similar, too? This has the small, round leaves. Wish I could blame the plant, but I suspect it's just me. Kind of depressing, though, because it is such a cute one!

Watering a four inch pot once every two weeks seems like far too infrequently from my experience. I use potting soil, perlite and medium sized bark or CHC to grow my Hoyas and the plants in 4" pots get watered a minimum of once a week. I have some thirsty Hoyas in 4" pots that get watered every four or five days. I hope you can save your plant. Remember that the roots will have been damaged so water more often but be sure not to let the potting mix stay wet, let it just start to dry out and then water again. Is there any green left above the roots? Hoya cummingiana does naturally have woody stems so they don't stay green for long but as long as you have green leaves still attached along the stem you can save the plant without too much trouble.
