A Really Bad, Terrible Weekend
Comments (12)I've been following the Fay threads here for several days, knew from national news that she wasn't done Friday. We worry for your safety. The irony is that we have to wait until power is restored and you have a few minutes to spare from clean-up. Wish you were closer: I'd join TM with my little electric chainsaw. Oak is much sought after by folks who heat with wood stoves: know anyone who might help you out in exchange for a few logs? Glad to read DH's surgery went well. One of the challenges of recovery is overcoming boredom. And, when you're the care-giver, forgiving (in my experience) the little bell ringing for attention every 15 minutes. Best wishes! Comments (11)I didn't think of that about the solar lights just lighting up in the middle. AH HA! I (and probably alot of other people) thought the whole thing would light up. Well, it's still neat. In my area I could at least count on that "daylily" beings sunfast and colorfast.....Your daylilies sure light up the garden. My favorites are Christopher Moody. Love the pattern. Reminds me of Pansies (which I love). Beautiful Edgings always commands attention and your crisp image does justice to it........Maryl...See MoreFlower show in Silver Spring this weekend
Comments (2)I just wanted to compliment the National Capital Area Chapter for the incredible display and sale I got to attend Friday - it was well worth the 6 hour drive home from the DC area (which usually takes 2.5!) I had to leave too early to experience the entire show, but I had a good peek in through the open doors as judging was in progress, and look forward to seeing pictures on the Ges. society website later on. Came home with some true treasures - some Hemiboeas, Lysionotus, and Sinningias that I'll trail here for hardiness here once I've propagated them. Since my main focus is growing gesneriads as perennials, I probably will never enter a show, but I have gorgeous clumps of Sinningia tubiflora, sellovii, and "Butter and Cream" blooming right now which have been in place for several years. Titanotrichum and Hemiboea subcapitata are looking good, but will bloom later. Thanks again for a great morning in Silver Spring!...See MoreFirst Flowers This Week-End
Comments (6)To karyn1 -- the scent is fairly faint, but very nice. To kevabear -- the plant is a V-shape off one main trunk. It has two branches about the size of the one shown in the third pic above. I'll try to get a pic of the entire plant and post it here. To dave in nova -- the inflo you see in pic two was only two days old. We had some very hot weather this summer in 6b - Northwest Arkansas. From the time the inflo developed until first bloom was about 3 1/2 weeks. Interestingly - the other branch has an inflo on it too, but it appears to be about 2 weeks behind the flowering one....See MoreLaura twixanddud - SE MI - 5b
