a few hardy Opuntias in bloom today
Comments (7)Would you be able to spare a pad or two from your pink variety Optunia Polycantha - showcased in the pictures above? Is that one also referred to as 'Carmin'? I have the variety Optunia Compressa I believe, which is the one with the gorgeous yellow fiery flowers. I would love to have a hearty pink variety as well next to it. I can pay for postage - no problem! Please let me know if you can help me out with my request. If you live in WI, I am sure Polycantha will do very well in Indiana like my Compressa variety. If you would like some Compressa, in exchange, please let me know. ;o) Sincerely, Deb...See MoreCactus starting to bloom and misc pics from the yard.
Comments (25)I hear that in the future they will try to find ways to diminish the heat island effect but I have no idea why! You would definitely have a lot of angry palm growers lol. Look at the good the heat island effect did to the palms in Florida. Millions of palms were saved thanks to that. One of the greatest things about living in and around a city is the slightly milder planting weather and when you include an ocean right next to it you got a great climate for experimenting with marginal plants! I really love the look of agaves. The first ones I ever saw was in europe and after a ton of searching I finally found out the name of the plant. When I found out some can survive a zone 7 I was really happy! Now that I know what they are I see then all over in milder climates. I saw one in the caribbean in flower with hummingbirds around it getting its nectar. A very nice scene for sure and something that you might see with your agaves one day (and thats in Iowa!). Good luck!...See MoreA few blooming today
Comments (14)Ha ha ha ha, Julia that phrase is my go to response every time I see a pix of a violet I don't have! The sad part of it is that "I MEAN IT" sincerely!(emphasis,,,, not shouting!) Terri & Anne, why is it important to keep track of hybridyzers? I mean, if the information is given in a "Master List" from AVSA certainly I notice it and maybe even remember it (maybe) if it is a favorite violet. But other than that is it important? On a larger scale? Am I missing something? Thanks!! Rosie...See Morea few blooms from today
