But of course everything was battered in the garden today. Yesterday, though, had many blooms. The outlook is still for a drier than normal summer here. Remember last year when people complained that they weren't able to view the flowers all day long because it rained during the day. I'll take that over this season when some cultivars have yet to have a normal bloom.

Rings of Saturn opened well after a very warm night.

Flight of Orchids surprised with this perfect pair.

Smoke Scream looked good, though pictures tend to flatter its reality:

Linda Sierra I also put in at the estate garden, overlooking the fountain:

Ultimate Perfection, the older Wilson cultivar, bloomed in a pot.

Visitors to the garden have been struck by the old Webster cultivar Solar Fire, which is huge this year.

This butterfly on In My Pink High Heels reminds us that all of Nature is imperfect.

Moses' Fire has had perfect blooms.

The old Latin Satin pleasantly greeted me with perfect blooms, when so many fall short.

Buttered Popcorn was surrounded by companions at the hospital garden. Those big, beautiful buds opened today and quickly were deluged.

Geneva Firetruck has come into its own this year.

At least the butterfly escaped the bird to fly another day. The flowers tomorrow will reflect that rain we got last night. I will have my camera out in the garden early.

Daggone rain is teasing us here in Westminster. Lots of thunder but very, very little water. Hand watering at night is lovely until the mosquitos show up, and the horse flies!

thanks for the suggestions! i'm always unsure what this means about 'the roots get a chance to dry out'; leave it long enough and sure, eventually it will dry out! i mean, i my case the soil promotes drainage and the containers also evaporate water so if there is some sun, they will dry out (just worried about how long that will take!) nevertheless... agree that perhaps digging them up at this point is too much and too risky! will just throw a tarp over them for the weekend's rains :( attaching a photo regarding the winter: these are pretty cold hardy and i'm in their hardiness zone, or so the nursery told me! (zone 8). but i will be covering them with some felt blankets for the cold days and bringing out a heat lamp if needed! they're sheltered from the wind.

the Viette seedling again with Fushia Dream. FD will be split as it is way short on height and scapes and buds this year, and that has been a trend. North Wind Dancer just keeps on going..... that's all folks. Brad

I'm glad to see you got some rain! Safe Island is really churning out the blooms for you this season. I like the dark purple of Killer and the patterned eye on Courage to Change.

I like the red on All American Chief. I wonder how colorfast it would be in our summer heat? It never fails to grab my attention......Martha Hale is a pretty pink. Nice texture to the petals from the picture....I like bright colors so Moses Fire speaks to me but I don't think it's supposed to be colorfast ....I came this close to getting Linda Sierra last year. She's so tempting, but I doubt I would get that striking lavender color here. Some day though I might just try it......Maryl

wow, that is a great clump shot of Safe Island. All American Chief is a very vibrant red and looks to have many scapes and buds. Glad to hear you got rain.

Lovely! My favorites are Sultry Girls and All American Chief. I got AAC late last summer, hope mine looks as nice as yours. Glad you got rain, still nothing here... maybe (hopefully!) Sunday.

It's supposed to be 90 here this weekend; we'll see how All American Chief holds up. I'll watch Martha Hale too (yes, it has interesting veining).

It's hard to tell you aren't having your best season, things look wonderful. Glad you received some rain, let's hope the predictions are off.

Rain is wonderful, so glad you got some. Your daylilies look marvelous, not really hurt much to my eyes. Love Flight Of Orchids, Linda Sierra, Ultimate Perfection. All American Chief can't be missed because of the color, and your Safe Island clump is impressive.

Safe Island is really impressive with all the blooms. I also like Linda Sierra, smoke Scream, & Courage to Change, & All America Chief, &... Like Sherry said, hard to tell you aren't having a good season, your photos all look so good!
