Desperately in need of help - dining room
Comments (29)Why can't you put a heavy (2 or 3 inch diameter) wood curtain rod right across the bay window and let the panels frame the bay? Take down the two prints to the left of the bay and you have plenty of room for full, lovely curtain panels on wooden rings. Select a wonderful curtain fabric and redo the seat upholstery on a companion fabric or a solid. Your dining room has a lot of elements that, taken separately, are all great, but they are not consistent in terms of quality or style. I personally like the chandelier--- it dresses up your dining furniture in exactly the way French country is supposed to look. But the fabric upholstery doesn't add anything. IMO the two elements that are way off are the unframed canvas---not nice enough for the room, and the mirror, which looks sort of "olde worlde Tuscan". Putting a bench in that window will block a lot of the light, and will not provide any really useful seating. Who would eat there at a tv tray or small table or with a plate in their lap when the others are seated at the table? So, I would replace the mirror with something bigger and square or rectangular and gold leaf and fancy. Put beautiful curtains on the bay on a gorgeous gold painted or gold leaf fluted rod held up with brackets. Reupholster the chairs in a beautiful solid color. Take the two framed prints and put them where the canvas is now (and move the canvas to another room entirely)....See MoreNeed help with dining room in new home. Blank slate waiting for help.

Comments (2)hanging a light from the 16ft is an option its just how much do you want to sink into it. otherwise you could go back with track and run it width wise and just add track heads. you could also go back and add wafer style LED "recessed" lights. you could also hang the track on the green wall above the table and face the lights down....See MoreHelp with dining room furniture layout?!
Comments (29)Kathryn- here’s a scale layout where I place table to create 3’ walkway between edge of table and edge of sideboard. I placed 4 chairs in corners and beside sideboard. The dotted line is a 9 x 12’ rug. It would leave only 4-6” on each end but I think that is desirable on your room. I sketched in a 26-28” round chandelier. And centered sideboard on that wall it’s on now. Each square on this drawing is equal to 1 sq. Ft. If you watch sizes on rugs you will find that each 9 x 12’ is in reality slightly different so might get one that is 8’-8” for example. I guessed at size of your table and made it. 78” long x 42” wide. Anything less wide will be a plus. Hope this helps you out....See MoreCourt M
