Need Advise for Thuja Green Giant Arborvitaes

User

We planted 12 Green Giant Arborvitaes here in upper South Carolina right outside of Charlotte. We did this for privacy to block the house behind us which is really close and up above us. There is a swale at the back of our property before the tree line so our landscaper planted the trees above the swale up the hill a little ways . They were all balled and burlapped and range from 8 to 10 feet. We got them this big because we are older and feel we don't have a lot of years to wait for little ones to get large enough to block the home behind us. My question is about the watering.

Our landscaper put a drip system in with 2 emitters (2GPH) on each tree right near the truck base. At first he only put one emitter on them and said to water them every day for 45 minutes for the 1st two weeks. Because we had other much smaller plants put in at the same time that didn't need that much water, he came back and added a second emitter to the trees and said to water for 15 minutes. That would only be 1 gallon of water at each watering. He also said to hand water them as we had a horrible hot spell right after they were planted. We tried to plant them earlier in the spring but the weather was horrible with so much rain. We had to wait until the 1st week of June. We are so confused about the watering. We paid so much for these trees and don't want to lose them. Our soil is red clay here in the south. The trees were purchased from a local tree farm so they have been growing in native soil. They were dug and burlapped the day before we planted them apparently. They looked absolutely beautiful. We are seeing a tad bit of browning on some tips and now are worried. Advise please, on watering and what to look for and what the tip browning might be! Thank you!
