Extreme Deadheading, a new approach...

I really gotta laugh at how easy it has become. I have a large circle flowerbed, a long 2' tall retaining wall, and several large patches of perennials. As each section is finished blooming or if a section is too tall and needs to be cut back for shorter stems for the bloom, I use a hedge trimmer.

The trimmer is mounted on an extension handle to make for easier sweeps originally designed to sculpt large yews.

I cut a large border of Sedum from 12" down to 4", a patch of asters that are always too tall down to 5". A patch of golden rod, another of Bee balm, down to 6" or so.

Sections of bulbs with yellowing leaves and stems of seed pods, you name it, if it can be cut back without harming the plant, it gets cut in a matter of minutes. Many times, I don't even have to pick up the clippings.
