Help; My Succulent Is Dying?
Comments (0)Hey So I am meant to water this succulent twice a week And it needs at least four hours of sunlight per week - according to where I got it Now, I forgot to water it on the designated second day, and two days later (today) it looks like this (this image was taken by my phone, hence the odd colouring) It was kept in a shady region, but minor sunlight was available from a nearby window. Is there ANY way at all I can save my succulent? Help of any sort would be greatly appreciated - this is the first plant I'm caring for myself and I am completely taken aback. I have no idea what's happening or why it's happening. Thank you so much...See MoreHelp!!! My succulent is dying!!!
Comments (4)If the base is squishy, it's rotting and you'll have to take a cutting and re root it. Take a wooden skewer or chopstick and put it in the soil for a few minutes. Pull it out to see it if it is damp. If it's damp, don't water. Your plant needs more light. Do you have a window which gets more light, like south facing? If so transition slowly into that light. If you want to put more effort into it, get a bag of cactus and succulent planting mix and a bag of perlite or pumice. Mix 50-50, repot your plant. Don't water for a day or two. When you water, let the water run out the bottom hole, I don't just water a little bit. your plant needs bright light to full sun and fast draining soil. The morning sun it's getting, it needs all day....See MoreHelp!!! Why are my succulents dying?
Comments (23)Thanks for all the support. The plants have been in place for almost two years, so I cant blame the landscaper who planted them. But they are RAPIDLY dying. :( I have not spoken to my neighbor as they have been out of town and frankly they will not know anymore than I do. I paid an "expert" recommended by a nursery $80 to look at the plants who was no help! He said it could be beetles, but maybe not, that it could be the intense heat we've had, but maybe not. What a waste of money. He said he would give me a quote to maintain the yard and and also a separate quote to move the plants that were in the sun and needed to be in the shade, and vice versa. He never got back to me and has not returned my phone call. I have a landscaper who looked at it yesterday and says he knows how to treat it. He said it's not beetles, but some sort of fungus? It will cost $200 to treat. They will use some sort of granules. He doesnt think it will hurt the wildlife as it needs to be wetted down and mixed into the soil. They are coming today. They will also maintain the yard twice a month. He and his brother used to work for a top desert landscape architect and were recommended by the contractor working on my home. I will keep you guys updated!!!...See MoreHelp, my succulent is dying!
Comments (1)The stem could have just dried up. Or, it may have been rotting first and then dried up. Can't really tell. Soil it is in looks like peat, and could have been kept too wet or too dry. Not sure if you can save any of it. You could cut off those still green & live-looking pieces. Let them callus for just a while, then stick in a very well draining mix. Not peat. Many ppl use mix of coarse perlite and Cactus & Succulent soil in 50/50 ratio, maybe you should try that mix. I wonder about white area on one of the branches - circled in red:That may be just salt deposits, but could be mealy bugs too - I can't tell from your photo. See if it will wipe off easily, using paper towel or cotton ball. If bugs, you should wipe it off with something moistened with rubbing alcohol. Any pot used for plants should have drainage holes - can't tell if yours does or doesn't......See MoreMaria Delacour
