Comments (130)1. I also have a slug problem-you should see what those things can do to alpine strawberries! I'd use beer traps, but it seems such a waste. 2. I'm not convinced on the delphs, but I'm not opposed either-guess my usual ambivalence comes to the fore. I guess I'll try on a test basis, at some point. I've got a lot of lawn to dig up & leaf mulch to incorporate in the meantime. Those things are poisonous? Not that I plan on eating any, still it might somehow mix in with the dandelions that look to be peoples food of the future. 3. I'm still intrigued by the bats, and the moonflowers, and the 4 o'clocks, etc.. Not sure how my rosa moschata temple musk will do in that regard, so accompaniment seems warranted....See MoreFIFTY people killed in Orlando! FIFTY!
Comments (184)practigal Well, if you have time, there were some great articles on the NY Times website today and as always the people's comments on the content of the articles were even more interesting. For whatever reason the commenters on that website are usually more thought-provoking then trolling. (Sadly, the comments on my local paper's website seem to be troll controlled.) **** "My" paper is the Washington Post, and omg, the comment sections are a nasty, partisan, detritus-filled cesspool most of the time. I don't know why I still scroll through to see if I can glean any gestalt about the zeitgeist when it's just people infighting and finger pointing....See MoreSchool shooting in FL
Comments (80)This was posted on my Facebook. Good idea that needs to spread, be organized and promoted. All students and concerned citizens be invited to join. Spread the word. "David Berliner issued the following call for a national teachers’ strike on May 1. Teachers are now first responders, trained to protect their students if a shooter gets in the building. Some have given their lives for their students. Parents should join teachers. Enough is enough. Berliner writes: ”It is way past time. Between now and May 1st teachers have to agree on the gun legislation they want. They can consult with Giffords and Kelly, and others who have suffered, such as the parents who have already lost children to this horrible characteristic of our culture. If by May 1st they have not received assurance that their legislation for sanity in gun ownership will be acted on soon, they need to walk out of our schools. It would be May Day, when workers should exert their strength. “Our country’s legislators, and the voters who send them to make our laws, can then choose: Teachers and (most) parents for sane gun laws, or, the NRA that provides our legislators money to avoid making the laws that could reduce the carnage we see too frequently. “Almost all of America’s 3 million teachers— nurturers and guardians of our youth– want sensible gun laws. They deserve that. But they have to be ready to exert the power they have by walking out of their schools if they do not get what they want. They have to exert the reputational power that 3 million of our most admired voters have. Neither the NRA nor their legislative puppets will be able stand up to that. My advice is to start meeting now, write model legislation, submit it to state and federal legislators, and if rebuffed, close down our schools until you get what you (and the rest of us) deserve.” Save our children. PS: There is no link. He sent this message to me. We are in despair. "...See MoreIdea to reduce the number of gun massacres in schools + elsewhere
Comments (157)Liberals... do what makes you feel good, take God out of schools, okay to burn the flag, disrespect the President Ingeorgia, if you're going to be so critical, at least don't be a hypocrite. You criticize others for disrespecting the President but I have seen you refer to President Obama as "obamination" several times, including when he was still in office. I guess your comment only applies when you like the President. I don't like Trump at all but I would never call him names like you call Obama. I'm more respectful than that. The generalizations you make in the rest of your post are sad. I had no idea that rap music is a liberal thing. I'm happy to support keeping religion out of the government and whatever gender people choose to identify as. I support peaceful protesting. I have never celebrated the death of police officers and I find that implication disgusting and incredibly offensive. It's also a downright lie, which is funny since you also call liberals liars. I don't believe the government should be able to force women to have children, especially if the children are rape consequence, endanger the life of the mother, or are terminal themselves. I recently read about a woman who found out in her second trimester that her child will be born with a severe deformity and die immediately upon birth. Her doctors recommended termination but Texas passed a law that prohibits insurance companies from covering abortions unless it's a medical emergency. Since this child could be carried to term, this woman has a choice to either carry this terminal child to term or pay $8,000 to pay for it herself. They want to force this woman to carry a baby she knows won't live for another 5 months and make the child suffer during childbirth only to die shortly afterwards. Are you okay with that? It's barbaric and inhumane for both mother and child. These are the sort of things we will face if we let the government make these decisions. I'm not pro-abortion. No one is pro-abortion. I don't like when women use abortion casually like birth control. But I think it's worse for the government to make decisions about women's bodies....See Moremare_wbpa
