Hot Chilli Plant not doing well - please help?
Comments (6)Thanks for your posts guys - I appreciate the help! I came home today and it's looking even worse. I was little confused at the watering though - first post implied to water it more - second post implied to not water it too much! Which do you think is causing the drooping? When you say 'supplemental light' - how many hours of sunlight should the plant get ideally? And what light is sufficient as a 'supplement? Flurescent? or a normal lamp pointed at it? The problem is im not sure if it's too much water or not enough water or not enough light that's actually the problem. Josh you seem to be applying it's the lack of light that's the problem? I really want to keep this plant alive and make it flourish - I will do whatever it takes. I could probably leave it outside out the back of my block of apartments in direct sunlight for a day or 2 until I work out a more permanent solution. (It's not like someone would steal it - if they did they would suck!) But would I be better off trying that? or pointing a lamp at it 24/7 for a few days? Once again, thanks for your help guys. I really dont want it to die :(...See MorePlease help ID this bug on my indoor plants
Comments (3)ken - clarifications: I have tried homemade bug remedies that have not worked. The "fungicide 3" is the name of the brand and is supposed be a fungicide as well as an insecticide and miticide. Have you any ideas as to what the bug is? And what may be useful to get rid of it as stated in my original post?...See MoreHelp with my indoor chilli plants
Comments (3)The plain soil will compact too much in a container so the roots can't penetrate the soil. The worms and bugs create aeration with an in ground garden so dirt/soil is fine. If possible, yank the plants and shake the soil out of the roots and switch to a potting style mix....See MoreI need help with my indoor plant that is faltering
Comments (11)To flush soil: saturate soil and wait 10-30 minutes; then pour a volume of room temp water equal to at least 10x the volume of the pot (that holds the planting) slowly through the soil. This will remove a large fraction of dissolved solids that tend to accumulate in the soil. It's also like pushing the fertilizer 'reset' button. It's very common for growers to use fertilizers with NPK %s that can quickly cause the ratio of nutrients in the soil solution to become badly skewed. This can be a serious limitation because too much of nutrient A can limit plants' ability to take up A, B or C, or all three. For example, high P(hosphorous) fertilizers, which are very commonly used, are famous for inducing antagonistic deficiencies of Fe (iron). Growers often see the chlorosis (yellowing) in foliage associated with the Fe deficiency and think more fertilizer is the answer, which of course only exacerbates the issue.
