Bugs (earwigs) eating all my plants

My Peppers, Brussels Sprouts, Cucumber and Radish plants have all been chewed so the leaves are almost non-exsistent except for the veins. I suspect it's earwigs, because the damage seems to occur over night and I never see any bugs on the plants. Even my potted flowering plants are being eaten, and when I water them earwigs come running out of the soil.

Is there anything I could put in the soil that would kill, or at least repel the darn things? I've heard of systemic insecticides, but are those safe for vegetable plants? What's the use of spending all that money for nice plants, only to have them ruined by nasty earwigs!

Any ideas or advice? TIA

Janet
