think either the granite needs to be 'quieter' or else a different backsplash; to me they compete with each other

I'm new here but just wanted to say those are the exact colors I was thinking about. But I see what others commented about and I would probably go with a darker counter top.

I agree about all the gold, but I don't think it's the backsplash that's the issue. It's the counter and floor. Of the two, I think I might look for a different floor and keep the counter.

Yes, I like the darker counter top. The counter top you selected looks nice too so maybe go for a darker floor.

If you love the granite, use that and maybe wait until it is installed and then deal with the backsplash (I would use a solid color tile)

You'll find plenty of photos of gold granite with gold floors and travertine backsplashes as it was "the thing" when granite first started gaining in popularity. That's going back twenty years. Today it's not trendy so it looks very gold to anyone who looks mainly at modern kitchens. If it's not too gold for you, then it's a tried and true combination.

I still have gold in my home from ten years ago in upholstery, but when I redid my kitchen four years ago, I used a cream quartz counter and floor tile with just a little gold in it. My cabinets are natural cherry. That's about as warm as I wanted to go. In your kitchen, I'd tone down the floor and use a ceramic backsplash to bring it up to date.

Someone else posted this slab and I thought something like this would go well with your cabinets.

if you really want the granite and the alder cabs, I'd go for a much, much plainer floor and BS. 4 busy items together would be overwhelming to me.

each is nice alone but all put together would be very busy.

I would pick up the gray/blueish colors in the granite for the backsplash.

This is my warm-toned floor. It's got soft gold over a light gray base with bronze veins. It doesn't scream gold. The floor and granite are large surfaces on parallel planes, so your eye is going to take it all in at once. With your choices it will be all gold, which is a very strong color. The floor you've shown also has a lot of orange in it. That's the problem I see, strong color, extremely popular during the Tuscan craze in kitchens, thereby making your new kitchen feel like it was installed in 1990. I'm not saying it's wrong, just that kitchens have changed so much just in this decade. Shoot, my kitchen is dated with the cherry cabinets! But you do what suits your home, and the popular white and gray doesn't suit mine.

You love the honey tones, so use them in a ceramic backsplash. You really can't pull the cooler gray blue colors out because gold really dominates so that you don't even see the nuances of other colors in the granite, and especially when you step back and look at the overall room. Everything will be gold and orange.

Another word about backsplashes--with a granite with that much pattern, you want a solid color or subtly shaded tile for your backsplash. Another 90s thing you'll see is busy travertine or mosaic backsplash with a highly patterned granite.

Edit: Thinking some more, all of your selections are the same intensity, tone, saturation of color. All of a medium to dark value. So I'd use a very light backsplash in the honey tone to give you a lighter value in the mix. My cabinets, which have darkened since this first month photo, are the dark value in my kitchen.

I would pull out the lightest gray from the granite/blue/green and match that for the backsplash. It will help make the granite and cabinets "pop" (being the complement) in a pleasing way. However make sure to choose a solid color tile or one that maybe just has a crackle finish to it.

Right now everything in your kitchen is very warm and choosing the complement will help to "cool" the kitchen down just a bit while still making the granite the star.
