Comments (5)Once in a while the Winchester Cathedral reverts back to Mary Rose. A flower that is pink or half pink and half white can occasionally happen. Chicago Peace does the same thing. One flower can revert back totally or partially to Peace. It is a curiosity and nothing to be overly concerned about if it happens. My Winchester Cathedral has done fairly well and usually has some flowers on it or coming most of the time. It does need spraying for blackspot. If Mary Rose does well for you then this one should also....See MoreGlamis Castle vs. Winchester Cathedral
Comments (13)My Winchester, Mary Rose and Redoute have all been stingy bloomers. I wonder if it's the lack of winter chill. Plants look nice but not so many flowers. Glamis Castle has been slow to establish but now is becoming a dependable bloomer on a less than waist high plant. I have not even pruned except to deadhead and the plant is in only 4-5 hours of afternoon sun. I wanted to try and get some of the pale color on the new flowers which in more sun quickly faded to white when I had her in a 15 gallon can in more sun. Also, less sun tones down the sharp myrrh fragrance to sort of a fruity narcissus to my nose. I'm sure it would bloom more in more sun. Fair Bianca is my favorite white DA rose to date....See MoreCathedral Windows
Comments (12)Vanessa, that Cathedral Windows of mine is brand new. It was at least 4 weeks behind the rest of my hosta. It came from the frozen north when they could finally ship. It must have been almost May when it came. It was just small pips when I got it. My hosta came up in March. Everything was up by April 15. We're always a month or more ahead of the Northernmost climes. Ours bloom earlier. The second flush comes by June 1. Right now, I have open blooms on LS Shore Master and Olive Bailey Langdon. I have scapes on lots of plants. We're just way ahead of you guys. bk...See MoreWhat other roses are there that are D.A. look alikes?
Comments (102)@Diane Brakefield I was reading through some of the older comments, and I just have a question on your Colette rose. Do you recommend it as a climber? Is it pretty free blooming for you or is it rather stingy? I’m just looking for a really pretty climber with nice blooms and likes to flower. I had my heart set on Eden, but after reading some comments on it tending to be stingy in colder climates, I might lower it from the coveted #1 position on my most-wanted list hahaha (if any other cold climate folks have personal favorites they’d recommend, lemme know!)...See More- 7 years ago
