I took samples of my crusty buds to my county extension office and they confirmed it was Chilli Thrips. I live in Birmingham, Alabama which is in the north central part of the state, so they are spreading. We have had a very, very, unusually warm fall, breaking all kinds of records. It was 88 degrees on October 31, so I am hoping cold will get them soon. Should I still spray Conserve this late in the season? Do they overwinter in the soil? Any preventative measures would be greatly appreciated. I would have sprayed earlier but I just assumed I had over fertilized. Now I know better.

I see leaves with white spots that might be from Sawfly Larvea (Rose Slugs). RS are green worm looking things that range in size from tiny up to a inch long. Usually found on the underside of leaves...They eat holes in leaves also... They can be picked off the bush OR least toxic spray would be safers insect killing soap... But since you have yellowing leaves I'd hold off spraying it with anything until you get your problem figured out... Blackspots might be what we call blackspot or a similar fungus disease... Sure looks like rrd to me. Would you mind taking more photos to post here. Do you know when the first rose began to look sick. If it is rrd the sooner that you can remove the roses the better in order to save your other roses. I'm not up to speed on how far into Texas rrd has spread. I only know that it is indeed there. It is possible to successfully grow roses in spite of rrd but we need first to find out what you have. I'm sure that I've read that Texas has places where you can report possible cases. I assume the extra diligence is due to the rose growing fields that are there. One place to start is to google rose rosette disease in Texas. Some sites have excellent information. Some unfortunately are just terrible. It is possible to learn as much as possible so that you can spot it early when you have a chance to save the plant. Speaking of dicamba it makes me sick when they arial spray herbicides in 40 mile an hour winds at the edge of town right next to the grade schools and nurseries that carry plants that I purchase. That children pets gardens you name it are still being spray with toxic chemicals in this age of knowledge is beyond my understanding.

If your container has good drainage, it is VERY hard to over water it. But if you give it to much fertilizer and not enough water, it will burn the plant.
