It will probably grow well in any zone 6b. It is native from coastal Connecticut to the southeast and westward to probably the Edwards Plateau in Texas. The further south you get in its range, the more invasive it is. The wild form is considered a lawn weed in the Carolinas, and I remember seeing long stands of it along I-10 in Florida and many roads in eastern Texas.

I read that it does set seed, for some. That wouldn't be a problem here. However, I have read a few reviews that state it doesn't live long at all. That would be a problem. My hope is to cover the hill, not replant or relocate seedlings every year. So....I'm still looking. Thanks for the input.

I planted some lyrata seeds under lights 3 months ago.Only 3 plants germinated.They stayed very small for a long time and I tried hardening them outside,but the sun was too much for them and they died.I thought the seeds needed stratification so I was going to wait until late autumn to sow more outside.I just found out you can just sow them with no pre-treatment so I'm going to sow some seeds outside now.They probably won't reach flowering size but should get big enough to survive the winter and flower next spring.So,no I don't think it's too late to plant seeds.That's probably how it propagates itself in the wild,just guessing.

I've got to divide and move some things around this Fall, so won't direct sow this year, but I got some seed also. Think I will save them till this winter and try to get some started. I ended up buying a flat of Ceratostigma Plumbaginoides for the area around the grasses. They had me at blue flowers and the fall foliage sealed the deal. But, I still think the Lyrata looks interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience.
