Hortico mis-labeled roses

Well, yet another of my Hortico roses just opened up and is not the correct rose. I just sent an email to them with the pictures of the three mis-marked roses I got this season. I'm very disappointed in two of them, as they were replacements for a couple that either died or disappeared in the septic tank re-do last yr. I wonder if they even have the real roses. Hopefully they will figure it out. I still enjoy ordering from them. They do have so many hard-to-find ones.

Here are my mismarked ones... in case any of you guys might've ordered them as well:

Supposed to be ROTARY SUNRISE, Fryer orange blend HT.... looks like maybe either ROTARY ROSE or ROTER STERN??

This was supposed to be the J&P MONET/GRAND IMPRESSION (JAClion) apricot blend HT, but it is in fact the other MONET rose (which I already have):

And this was supposed to be the yellow Kordes HT WINTER SUN. I love it whatever it is. Reminds me of SUNSTRUCK which they also list on their website. But, I also have that rose, and this rose has bloomed twice and does not have the distinct characteristic yellow "peacock feather" veining on the undersides.

That is so frustrating. Hopefully they will make good real fast. Most everyone is about to suspend shipping for the summer so fingers crossed they take care of your problem.

Those last photos look an awful like South Africa, which is a really good rose but does get quite tall.

Hortico has a new shipment of them that they got from another supplier just last week. I don't know what the rootstock is, or where they got it from; Amanda just said they had "out-sourced" it. I have one going out next week with my last order of the season. It's to replace the mis-marked one I got last yr. I can't wait to get it. Anyway, you might email them and ask about it.

I order from pretty much every vendor out there, every spring, Hortico among them. They have only sent the wrong rose once, several years ago. They sent Belle Amour instead of Celeste (my namesake rose) and DH had ordered 5 of them for me as a gift. Now I have 5 Belle Amour's and only one Celeste...(not including myself...lol). But Pickering has also sent me the wrong rose....as have several other vendors. The Paul Ricault I ordered 3 years ago from Pickering turned out to be Gros Choux de Hollande so I wrote them a long letter w/ photos of it and they sent me another Paul Ricault the next spring. Turns out this one was ALSO Gros Choux de Hollande so I still don't have Paul. Mistakes happen, and I have quite a few roses that I didn't expect and even the most respected vendors have sent a wrong rose upon occasion. Nonetheless, I still take a chance and order from these same vendors every spring because I just can't stop collecting roses.... and here in zone 4 you can't find the roses I covet in any garden center locally. And sometimes the "mistake" roses turn out to be a delightful surprise. The roses I ordered this year from Hortico came right on time and are all blooming profusely....and are exactly who I ordered, so no complaints this year. Celeste

I’m so glad you wrote about your mislabeled roses. I myself bought a ”Martha’s Pride” a few years back and it’s my best performing rose. You say it’s a “Peter Mayle”? Mine has grown to about 6ft and sends up shoots that grow to about 3/4” diameter by the end of the season. It puts out 12-18 roses at a time when in full bloom. Pictured: the center and right vases are full of blooms from a single “Martha’s pride’ plant, about 3yrs old. The left vase is flowers from two ’Love’ bushes, each 2yrs old. You hopefully can see why I see this rose as such a great performer?

Bethnorcal...Gold Star or Golstern ,is a Kordesii shrub ( which with no prune cane take off ) but can be kept as a 5 foot bush with hard pruning. Plus you get more blooms for your buck. I ordered both so I too will check with Nicole to make sure I don't get two of the same. My Goldstern Rotary Sunrise is a fav of mine I have three. It is a soft colouring of Tequila Sunrise. Dizzy Heights can also be kept shorter like a tall shrub. I kept it to 7 feet in my garden. Parade another of Boerner's Kordes like fragrant climbers. This one does do well in part shade. Parade in semi shade I have tried Good Life three times but this is a rose that will be happier in your area than mine. I now have three wimpy 2 canes. This year I will pour the liquid fertilizer on them. I think this is one of the best pure orange rose HTs.

I ordered from them for the first time this year- this one is suposed to be Austin's Pretty Jessica

The other ywo Pretty Jessicas and Sharifa Asma has not bloomed yet so we will see...

What a disappointment Beth and Kelly.

Beth, I looked up 'Sunstruck' and what a good-looking orange (with pink?). Does look like your pics. The top red/deep pink very attractive. Off to HMF. Thanks!

edit: Rotary Sunrise aka Voeux de Bonheur is stupendous!!!

Oldrosarian, it's definitely not SOUTH AFRICA. I have SA and this has more petals. Very close in color tho, that's for sure.

Kelly, I think your rose might be their Multiflora rootstock. I have a couple of their roses that ended up looking like your single pink.

Interesting Beth, never even considered multiflora... I also have SA. The blooms look similar, but mine are more yellow...

My very first order this year from Hortico was DA Yellow Button. I was reluctant, I'd heard the warnings, but darnnit they do offer the hard to find varieties. I got 3 to plant in a group. As they leafed out, I noticed that one of the three had quite different foliage. The two that are alike are beginning to bloom and do look like they'll be yellow, the odd one isn't forming buds yet, so the wait to identify continues. Frustrating, because they can't make it right by replacing the one wrong rose, the group planting would always be uneven.

Oh well, it's like I put my hand on a hot stove and am surprised that I got burned.

I bought 6 barefoot roses from Home Depot in the heady rush to find roses early in the year. They were labeled "Ballerina" and I was thrilled to find them as none of my local nurseries were carrying ballerina and I wanted to add them to the two I already have. They are blooming now and they are NOT Ballerina. One is actually a yellow rose and the rest appear to be nondescript pink roses, very unlike the cluster-blooming ballerina. Serves me right, I guess, for buying at the Home Depot.

At least you are able to go back to home depot if you choose. So frustrating!
