What size is your existing system that is to be replaced? What size heat strip is being proposed? What mdl air handler is quoted? Be specific. Not a fan of Lennox HPs. Hope you intend on getting another quote perhaps a Trane or AmStandard, However, if you can wait several mths, Lennox will probably have a nice rebate on this high end system. IMO

Absurd pricing and probably the system quoted is overkill. What does new vents mean? I assume nat gas is your fuel choice for heating. I would recommend XV95 Trane furnace with XR17 AC condenser, all correctly sized. Not a fan of Clean Effects; go with Perfect Fit media filter cabinet. HW VP IAQ thermostat. Same system available from Trane's sister company, Am Standard. Just curious, what size HVAC are you replacing? Post back. IMO

I live in S Florida and currently have an 18yr old Trane XE1100. It's about to give out. Just received a quote to replace both handler and compressor. Needing a 5 ton. I have a quote for 5ton XB14 and a TAM7A048H41SA. Is this a good matched set? I searched and the TAM7 model above only says its 4 ton. I assume the TAM7A0C60H51SA for 5 ton will blow more volume of air? Also this TAM7, I understand is like a refigerator with inner walls and no exposed insulation. If I understand correctly, Indiana statewide uses the 2003 International Residential Code plus the 2005 Indiana Amendments to that Code. A 36x36" window will not meet emergency escape and rescue opening requirements for a basement bedroom under the International Residential Code. First, although the Code requires a minimum net clear opening size for an emergency escape and rescue opening window in a basement to be at least 5.7 square feet, and you will have nearly a nearly 9 square foot window, your 36 x 36 inch windows will not comply with Code. The reason is that the minimum vertical opening must be at least 24". A 36" x36" double hung window will not meet this minimum. Only a casement type window might. Second, Code requires the sill of an emergency escpae window to be no more than 44" above the finished floor. If your window will need a framed header of 8 inches and the current basement height is 96 inches, this means that the sill height will be too high at about 52" to meet the 44" maximum height above the finished floor. Third, depending on the depth/height of the basement, a permanent escape well must be installed and if the depth of the emergency escape window is greater than 3 feet below grade, there must be installed a permanently affixed escape ladder in this well to facilitate a speedy exit from the bedroom in the case of an emergency. Fourthly, 2003 IRC Code requires all the exterior walls of this basement room to be insulated to state minimums. This will likley be at least an R-10 for the all the walls, even the walls that will only share space with the rest of the basement if it is currently unconditioned (ie. unheated). Fifthly, you will need to have the room wired and heated to Code minimums. This will include conencting to your existing heating system and wiring all walls for receptacles as well as lighting including those unfinished concrete walls if you wnat to use the room as habitable space. The basement bedroom will need to have an arc fault circuit interrupter place in the service panel to cut off power to prevent an arc fault fire. All this means, and from what you have offered, is that this plan has little chance of being issued a building permit because it does not appear to meet minimum safety, energy, and other standards for a basement bedroom. And it means that the price should be considerably higher than what you have been quoted to comply with these minimums. What you should do, is run these plans by your local code enforcement office to find out what is specifically required for your municipality in Indiana. From here, it sounds as if you are being shortchanged in the design and code compliance areas and the project will ultimately cost considerably more than you were quoted. Luck.
