I'm starting to see a lot of Japanese beetle damage on blooms, but several were picture perfect this morning.

Bowtie Affair ffo - Scapes are supposed to be 42 inches. Mine is 20 inches. This was planted in September.

Forever Redeemed took last year off, but is raring to go this season. This is one of the few cultivars in my Red Bed that has normal height scapes.

Spacecoast Ojo Rojo also took last year off. Here is today's ffo. Although registered with scapes at 18 inches, one of the scapes here is 20 inches. In a year of stunted scapes, it's nice to see one that defies the trend.

Abilene Lillian ffo with scapes that are only 12 inches tall. I have five fans and only one has a scape. I bought this one several years ago, grew it in a pot for more than two years, and it died before it ever bloomed. I replaced it last year.

Wonder of It All with it's first opened bloom of the season. Yesterday's ffo featured four blooms, none of which opened right. It has short scapes this year too.

Bowtie Affair is great, love that type of daylily. Hope the scapes take off pretty soon. I did not know Japanese beetles ate DLS, knew they loved roses. I will be on the lookout from now on. All your other daylilies are really eye poppers, what fabulous color. Wonder Of It All soothes them down, very pretty.

Bowtie Affair really has a lot going on, doesn't it! Makes me keep looking at it. Nice red on Forever Redeemed. They are all nice though, love the bright ones. So far, knock on weed, Wonder of it all is opening well here. It had problems last year though. It had 2 blooms yesterday, & 2 today, starting off well, hope it keeps up.

Thank you everyone! Andrea, Michael Bennet is planted in a semi shady spot so sunfastness has never been a problem here. I never counted buds years before but went out and counted now and each scape has about 9 buds. I would think it would be the same at your house. Someone gave me this daylily as a bonus plant but since it was years ago I don't remember who. Linda, KISSES LIKE WINE is a fabulous daylily. A good increaser and strong bloomer.

All so pretty I can't pick a favorite, love them all. Regal Finale looks nice! I don't have anything late of purple color, not that I have lots of lates (Ha, I looked it up and AHS picture is.. well, bad ;)) F.Garrett Mason is very pretty, love Best For Last too, and Royal Jester is a pretty bicolor. My SSC had it's first bloom today too :) I prefer DL names in the text field this way it's searchable. But it's also good when you can label pics because some of mine look so alike I don't rename my pics and sometimes have a hard time telling who's who :)

Jean and Rita - The sheer number of blooms on Autumn Jewels took me by surprise today. It's been having 8-9 blooms a day for about a week. But 19 flowers on it amazed me. I wish it would have the bud count it's registered as having (35). Mine has 20-25 buds per scape, but I'd love to see it have over 30. With bud building, one of my El Desperado scapes got to 37 in the same bed. Linda - August Frost does have a wonderful cooling effect on a hot day. Kay - I really like Francis of Assisi but wish it would clump up faster. It's planted in front of Autumn Jewels and the two look good together. At one time I had five fans of FOA growing in a pot, but lost all but one during a wet winter two years ago. Now I'm finally up to three fans of it again. Thanks for your comments, everyone! Debra

Nancy - Razor Sharp and Happy Happy have never had a bad bloom so far. I'm very pleased with their flowers. It's the short scapes on both this time that I take issue with. That's interesting that the Cheyenne Spirit coneflowers have done the best for you. I planted the cones that are doing well in August, but I didn't get the Cheyenne Spirits in the ground until early October. That may be the difference. I didn't plant the orlaya grandiflora seeds last year because I thought it would be too late to get many blooms. And I meant to plant them in April, but forgot. I'm going to plant some today. Thanks for reminding me. They won't bloom with the daylilies, but it will be nice to have some late summer and fall blooms from them. I'll start some cosmos to go with them. My WONDER OF IT ALL has short scapes and has not opened well. Of course the sun has not appeared in about a month!

Your Spc Ojo Rojo is really pretty.

Jkayd - The eye and edge on Abiliene Lillian is a rose red. This is the first bloom I've gotten with two tries for this plant so I don't know if it usually looks that color. I've seen other people's photos where the eye/edge look more of a rose pink.

Nancy - I was very pleased with the bloom on Bowtie Affair. A lot of patterned eyes don't show much here, and I've gotten rid of them because of that. I hope this one will continue to have great patterns even in high heat.

Ed and Nancy - Wonder of It All is on shorter scapes here. I always have about a third of the blooms that don't open well on it. Luckily there are many more good ones than bad ones.

Ed - Spacecoast Ojo Rojo and Forever Redeeemed were really shining in my Red Bed today. Even my husband had to go out and photograph those two, and he rarely photographs the daylilies.

Japanese beetles already? Ugh! Glad to see Forever Redeemed back in stride. Color in your red bed is not disappointing; Ojo Rojo has a splendid edge even though it is early in the season. You are getting good rain now, though, are you not? Here it is humid, hot, and dry.

Mantis - We're not getting as much rain as I would like - just a few quick, hard cloudbursts. Not the good soaking rain my plants need.

wow you got some beauties today. lOve that Forever Redeemed gorgeous red, love them bright reds.I had to grab up my 3new ones from the yard this morning and put them up on the porch out of the rain,we have had so much rain,they were starting to look bad and cameroon night has a scape with buds on it.just 2 or 3, but, Im not going to leave it out in the rain for it to rot in it. rained all night, raining when igot up this morning, then quit for awhile,and its thund.ering now ready to start up again.

Jean - Glad to hear you will at least a few flowers on Cameroon Night this season. You have had a ton of rain recently. Any flooding in your area?

Julia - The JP's are out early this year. They always chomp on my daylilies until the Rose of Sharon bushes get blooms. Then they pretty much eat those instead.

Debra,no Flooding around me, yet. the area hardly ever has standing water rain runs off pretty quick some where, only flooding is close to the river, and I am a long way from the river.Abilene lillian is a very pretty one, too good and bright, but, it dont hold a candle to that Forever Redeemed,
