Alternative to carpeted front porch?

I have a brick ranch that was built in the 60's. My husband has been working on the landscape, which looks great, but the eyesore is our front porch that is carpeted in old, blue, indoor/outdoor carpet. I have been reading posts and removing the carpet seems like a headache. Additionally, the previous owners were huge corner cutters. So, we are worried what would be underneath would be a bigger problem. Out porch has two steps and is not covered. I am open to all suggestions as to what are options are for making our porch look just as nice as the rest of the front, while being durable & safe. Thank you!!

The carpet is probably glued to the concrete. The removal is a chore, but can be done. Sanding off the residual glue can also be done.

You could then use a concrete dye to color the concrete any of several colors.

I used a product called SoyGel to remove carpet glue from my bathroom tiles. I am going to remove some nasty outdoor carpet from my front porch this summer. There is carpet glue all over the concrete under it. I'm going to order some soygel (no smell, you don't even have to use gloves) and give it a try before I paint it. Its the consistency of a hair gel. You pour some out, and paint it out with a brush. I did about a one foot square at a time. Leave on at least a 1/2 hour, the longer the better. Scrape up the goop. I used a brillo to clean the tile inside but I'll power wash the porch. I'll you know how it turns out! Here is a link that might be useful: SoyGel

hmmm i agree on the idea of using what you have with those diagonal posts. one thing i think we all need to see is how the house would look like without the landscape covering up the front as it is hard to tell when we only have the 1 photo , if you do decide to remove the landscape it would give us all a better picture of how the facade would look and what may compliment it.

Though I do understand the utility for a mud room - the need - I’m inclined to agree with @decoenthusiaste & @cat_ky about the potential to devalue your home. I’m wondering too how strollers, bikes, scooters, all wheeled items, are going to be hauled up & down the stairs. If it is enclosed properly to look like a room, no siding, & some other place found to store the wheels, then it sounds like a plan with some potential benefits. Have to say though that I do love an open porch on a house. Even on one in PNW where I also live!

The portico has to go no matter what . It is over the top and not in any way suitable for the house since you are doing some work on the siding I would eliminate the arch on the window above the garage and for sure the shake style siding . If possible the best would be to match the rest of the siding as close as possible If new windows then IMO a nice bronze would be my choice and a darker color for .the garage door and the rest of the trim including the front door. If the windows are iffy in the budget then at least paint the trim around the ones you have in a dark bronze If it was mine hat whole front facade would go and a nice to scale and style prch and portico with simple square posts where needed .If possible remove the grids from the existing window if they stay.

It sounds like you have a great opportunity to remodel and create an outdoor living space that you really love! You have a number of options, so it will take some time for you to figure out which is best for your personal taste and needs. A more modern sunroom might be a great idea, or you could open up the space with a more traditional patio situation!
